Why do we have to fire him? It wont look good for him. Resigning, on the other hand is alot easier and cheaper for us.,

You know, we say this a lot, but $1.5 million is nothing in the grand scheme of things, a few seasons of success under a successful coach would pay for itself.

So like I said, unless you're being cheap, he should either be here for all five years or he should be fired after this season. If the administration is waiting a year because it would be too expensive to fire him with two years, left we might as well all accept mediocrity for the remainder of our lives, because they aren't serious about being good.

And we have a winner.

because they aren't serious about being good.

Hasn't this always been the issue at G Mas and their basketball program especially since the end of the 2005-06 season? I never noticed a real commitment to take advantage of the incredible opportunities the Final Four appearance afforded them. At least, not on the court.

I resent that, PMP. We added handrails, flat-screen TVs and a new scoreboard with no video.

I think this is the reality we have to face for the time being. Its not about the coach, it snot about winning. As long as the proram is clean...then TOC and Cabrerra could care less whether we won 25 or 5 games. We will become a GOOD program again when luck lands in our lap, not when the school decides to make it a goal.

TOC will get his usual old boy network donors and things will be fine as a small side show operation.

We have to wait to see if and when we get a new AD and what his marching orders are from the top.

What is interesting, is that we have 11 people that voted yes last time and presumably the same 11 this time have voted yes as well. While I see people debating whether or not Mason can afford to fire him and similar, and saying it is not all his fault, the question wasn't whether he is screwing up less, or whether you think he will be here next year whether or not he deserves it. The question was do you have confidence in him? I don't see anything about what gives those people confidence.

I'd like to hear what those 11 people are seeing that gives them confidence in him as the coach. I'd like to have some of that confidence to ride out the next 2.5 years. What are you seeing that the rest of us are not?

I realize that response was meant sarcastically but we also added Doc Nix and to tell you the truth, he's waaay more meaningful to my game-day experience than a video scoreboard would EVER be. But I admit, I'm an enthusiastic music lover, especially when it's done well.

And when we get tv coverage, we get LOTS of positive publicity about how much he and the Green Machine add. I don't think I've ever watched a game (mostly on the dvr) where the announcer didn't comment on how good he is!

Do you think they would say anything about a video scoreboard if we had one? I don't.

From Bruce Pearl in a recent interview:

“During my last year, my job and the jobs of my coaches and their families were debated nationally, and I wouldn’t wish that on anybody,” he told me on the phone last week. “Coaches read it, coaches’ wives read it, players read it, recruits read it. So my message to the fans is, stop it. Take that passion you have and go to the games. Put it into the program and help your program come back and finish strong.”

Yeah, I wish the people that have a stake in the outcome of my work had no input on my performance. Just keep buying my software.

You get paid handsomely to do something many would do for free and possibly do a better job. Don't like criticism, get a job that is not in the public eye, pushing paper and the associated minimal pay that goes with it.

Man up, already.

Bruce Pearl ran such a clean program at Tennessee......we should at least be fortunate that Hewitt and Co. do things the right way with regards to recruiting, academics, and other off the court issues.

Well, that and TOC not wanting to give up that easily. No chance he admits a mistake that early on.

Sweet, I didn't realize I had that kind of power. My next move will be to move the students behind the other basket to make Five Two happy.

Seriously, some people assume that accepting Hewitt is here at least another year is an endorsement for that to happen. I admit to liking the initial hire, but I have no say whatsoever in his future at Mason. If he gets fired tomorrow, I will wish he and his family the best; if he's here another year or two, I have no option but to support him.

OK, Tom so what's the criteria for keeping him beyond next year? If we stink as we both presume we will next year, where do you draw the line?

Can I ask a serious question. Can you name 2 or 3 schools you would compare us to based on the past 15 years? I think it will help me understand people's expectations. I see us as a team that has been ranked for 2 weeks of regular season action over those 15 years, that had one glorious 2 week stretch in 2006 and a really good club in 2011. Does that make us a Miami of Ohio, an LSU, a Princeton or someone else to all of you?

99, I don't want to be any other school. I want us to be George Mason. Part of the logic for hiring Hewitt was to maintain a program that was almost always at the top of an ever improving CAA. We did not, supposedly, need to gamble on a hot, up and coming assistant to rebuild our program from the ground up. He was supposed to maintain what had already been established, and hopefully improve on it. Instead of maintaining, we have been getting steadily worse while several of those that went with a hot assistant have passed us on their way up.

Now, we have a program that is in the cellar of the A10 and we don't have the hot up and comer at the helm. We have the most expensive guy we can afford, we are possibly stuck with him for another 2.5 years and we are a program that is on the verge of needing a complete rebuild. The only hope I see even the most optimistic of posters on here is that we hit the jackpot with our incoming recruits over the next two years. I don't doubt we will end up with with some very good recruits, but will they suffer from the same execution problems that seem to plague Hewitt led teams, that they just don't seem to be able to execute the plays that he is calling?

So, it is like we paid the big money for the low risk option, but got the downside results as if we went with the risky hot assistant and the gamble failed completely. I expect more than that.

You should tell TOC how you feel. As the biggest donor who posts here, I would imagine he'd take your call and maybe even meet you for for lunch at Brion's.

Wichita State and Creighton. Taken over the entirety of the last 15 years that is about right.
