From ChatGPT:

That is a massive get for Tony Skinn. Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor (a 4-star recruit who briefly attended Butler) is exactly the kind of high-ceiling athlete George Mason has been hunting for in the 2026 transfer window.

Since he was a highly ranked prospect coming out of the 2025 class, his entry into the portal on March 30, 2026, sparked interest from several high-major programs.

Schools That Showed Interest

Before he chose the Patriots, several programs were reportedly in the mix, many of which had established relationships with him during his initial recruitment:

• Maryland: The Terps were a major player for him during his high school recruitment and reportedly checked in again. They have long valued his defensive versatility and regional proximity to the DMV.

• Missouri: Coach Dennis Gates has been aggressive in the portal and was one of Efeosa's finalists before he originally picked Butler. They were looking for his explosive downhill scoring.

• Providence: Kim English and the Friars have a history of recruiting explosive wings from the Northeast/Canada circuit, and they were linked to him shortly after he entered the portal.

• Alabama: While the Crimson Tide often aim for "top-tier" portal targets, they had an open offer from his high school days and maintained contact as they looked for athletic depth for their fast-paced system.

• Gonzaga: Though less publicized this time around, the Zags were in his "Final 7" as a recruit. There was speculation they might revisit that connection, though Mason's promise of a primary role likely won out.

Why George Mason?

It seems Tony Skinn’s staff sold him on the "dmvHOOPS" vision. By pairing him with Michael Marcus Jr. (the App State transfer), Mason has quickly built one of the more physically imposing frontcourts in the Atlantic 10.

For Efeosa, Mason offers something Butler didn't: a clear path to 30+ minutes a night and the chance to be the primary wing creator. Between his 6'6" frame and elite verticality, he’s a "pro-prospect" level talent playing in the A-10.

Are you following the roster build-out for a specific reason? It looks like they still have a couple of scholarships left to play with.

GIVING DAY 2023
It's fascinating to me that we've landed 3 rising sophomores which is contrary to our past history of bringing in seniors. I hope they all turn out to be studs and that they actually stick around.
I agree but if we even get 1 or 2 to stick around for 2 years I would consider that a win. The fact we are starting with Brayden Malik and Kanga returning at least gives us something to work with vs nobody.

Change in the plan. The way we look to recruit in the portal has changed from looking to old for looking for young and hungry guys who want to perform and grow.
