Sure this is bad as an athletic logo, but it is absolutely horrible as an academic logo. No prestigious university would use this. I could see a community college or a school of cosmetology, but not a top 50 public university.

I understand they want to unify the whole university under one logo. However, the president should have the authority to pick one existing logo and say ‘from now on, we will only use this logo’

Add a U to the GM, and that would be perfect too.
Why not have 2 logos? Most schools have more than one. Now we only have one, and it is awful.

If a logo requires extra text and/or context to look good, it is not a good logo. The whole point of a logo is that it is a symbol that stands on its own without context.
