I’m assuming O’Connor is a Curran connection? If so, sign me up! St Bonaventure has always had good guard play, I have faith in Curran’s ability to find good guards.

O’Connor is visiting Monday and likely committed. Marshall plays the same position. Hence, Marshall is no longer considering Mason.

I did like Marshall’s game, but I love O’Connors game after watching him closer. Great from 3, finishes strong inside, and has good size.

It looks like Mason will have multiple shooters on the court at the same time, which will prevent defenders from packing the paint, leaving Haynes/Gio EATING!

For sure. And like I said, with Haynes and Emejuru on the roster he doesn’t have to come in and be a hero. If he winds up averaging a double-double great. It he’s our 9th-11th rotation player also great.
I still think there is some eligibility concerns with Haynes. Seems like we are going after a ton of bigs.

Nah. Coach Tony wants three bigs. You have to go after 'em to get 'em. Same with any other position.

Don't worry. As much as I inquired over Haynes's eligibility, I don't think he transferred and stayed here to sit on the bench two years.

They played each other and UMass Lowell won by 21.

O’Connor had 12 points and 7 assists. Marshall had 30, but took 22 shots to get them. O’Connor seems like a glue guy who will do everything the team needs.
I like the assists.

O’Connor is a Hinnant connection from his time at UMass-Lowell.

Skinn quote on Hinnant “I’ve always respected Lou,” head coach Tony Skinn said. “Whenever I see him on the road and at the gym, he’s locked in and efficient. I’ve always admired that. To win like they did at UMass-Lowell, you know he’s been in the weeds finding underrecruited guys and really good players.”

Sounds like O’Connor could be that underrecruited gem.

Team boxscore and portal targets updated with projected (but not confirmed - no real inside info) O'Connor commitment.

Where's that coming from? Gota believe the staff and he himself worked hard to get Eligible, still got a whole summer to go as well. Think he'll be fine by time basketball season rolls around.

Pure speculation, given the team has no PGs and they are still going after bigs

There's plenty of room on roster. Problem is finding a PG. They do have a pg on roster, the freshmen out of Texas but ideally they get upperclassmen to play PG. Justin Begg is a PG.

I was going to say I don’t trust freshman, but BO proved you can play at a high level as a freshman…. Still bummed haha

Atlantic 10 Basketball: 2024 Offseason Pressure Index for each team

Can Afford To Think About Two Years

George Mason
Returning: G Darius Maddox, G Jared Billups, F Austin Ball, F Jalen Haynes (redshirt last season)
***G Woody Newton has an available Covid year
Pressure Index: 3/10

George Mason was a genuine sleeper for next season when the news broke that Baraka Okojie was heading to the portal, meaning that Tony Skinn had lost both of his top notch acquisitions from the prior spring (Keyshawn Hall). There's still decent talent left but it's going to take at least one star pickup, plus a few other additions and a leap from Austin Ball to build a contender next season. Skinn and staff did a terrific job in their first offseason in building for a two year cycle, but this may now be the start of a new one.

Ideal Target: (Pacific, 2). The Tigers were dispicable last year, losing their last twenty-three games against Division I opponents, but they were good in exactly one stat, assist rate (top thirty nationally). This came despite being being bottom fifty in the nation in effective field goal percentage, solely because of Odum. It's hard to trust players with good stats on teams this awful but Odum is a worthy home run swing to replace Okojie.
