Perhaps not, but the prospective AD or his/her agent needs to know of the position opening. So the posting makes it legal, which is very likely required by state law. It does indicate wiggle room-- "position is open until closed". The question raised earlier was with regard to the timeline for the position--the submit by date for full consideration gives some sense of that timeline.

Don’t mean to beat a dead horse but Edwards announced leaving in mid September of ‘22. Does this give one a sense of urgency?

Here's why it needs to be Tony...

Aside from the dumpster full of other "That's so Mason" problems, the coaching position here is just too attractive for someone wanting to use it as a stepping stone.

Yes, there's pressure to win. Eventually. But not the same as even the upper A10s like vcu, Dayton, etc. So you have time to do your thing. You get decent competition in conferences that's still decently regarded despite recent performance.

The entire Mason fanbase is a rounding error... effectively zero. Not a ton of huge donors and fans to appease.

Media coverage is nonexistent. No local pundits will clown you on air or in print. Gtown will get fresh eyeballs now with Cooley, UMD is good again, GW will probably improve. Mason is fourth banana locally at best. Probably seventh realistically behind UVA and VT.

And somehow, batting just above .500 doesn't totally DQ you from making a leap to a major if you're still young and highly regarded.

Someone who stays 5-6 years minimum can potentially get us out of purgatory. Maybe. Tony will care and hopefully stick around. Anyone else who's not a retread or long-shot has no reason to take any of Mason's crap longer than they have to.

I think it's just because Huger is currently unemployed and was recently a HC - so he would be a natural addition with that and his previous experience at Mason

Regular reminder that all University positions must be posted publicly, so you'll see a req for men's basketball coach here soon. It's always tickled me that before coaches get hired they more than likely need to also fill out the application online.

1) an offer was made
2) when the offer was made
3) what offer was made

If you can share it, I’d love to know (and many others as well). It appears you are very connected which is great, so hopefully you can share insight.
