Marko is Back!

Disappointing but not surprising. Another Hewitt guy suspended. I've always been a fan of Jenkins and believe he needs to start again to regain confidence and clean up boards. I also have liked Abrams as a stretch 4. He opens the floor for MM to drive and gives Shevon space on the block.

I'm surprised, because I thought that Marko was a good student.

Yeah, "institutional review process" is serious business.

University is running this. Not a team punishment like Holloway.

We have someone who's job it is to make sure these guys are taking care of their academics, how can this happen?

Assuming that this is a possible honor code violation, see http://oai.gmu.edu/the-mason-honor-code-2/:

"Student members of the George Mason University community pledge not to cheat, plagiarize, steal, or lie in matters related to academic work."

"Typical academic sanctions include but are not limited to:

  1. A Grade Reduction on the assignment
  2. A rewrite of a paper with a grade reduction
  3. Zero on the assignment
  4. A grade reduction in the course
  5. F in the course
  6. One semester or year non academic suspension
  7. Permanent dismissal from the institution"

Could be plagiarism on a paper maybe? If it's something that has to go before an honor board, it may take a while.

This is getting ridiculous, is Mason just that more strict than other schools? We look like a band of misfits who are screwing up left and right. Can't they handle some of this internally?

For more on the honor code, see http://oai.gmu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Honor-Code-Final-2015-16.pdf:

"Extent of the Honor Code: The Honor Code at George Mason University shall be specifically concerned with cheating or attempted cheating, plagiarism, lying, and stealing in an academic setting.

Cheating includes using unauthorized material and/or unauthorized assistance in academic work.

Plagiarism includes self-plagiarism, inadequate citation, false citation, and failure to adhere to citation forms set by the professor.

Stealing includes but is not limited to the following:

 Removing an exam from the classroom
 Taking pictures of or copying the exam and/or academic work
 Taking someone’s work without their knowledge

Lying includes, but is not limited to the following:

 Making up sources, data, information, etc
 Giving a false excuse for missing a test or a class
 Telling a professor or a teaching assistant false information
 Falsifying official correspondence"

http://www.gomason.com/fls/25200/PDF/2013_14PLANNERREAD.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=25200:

"Academics

A student-athlete at George Mason University is a regularly admitted, full-time, degree-seeking student. The responsibility for learning and completing an undergraduate degree lies with each student-athlete. Each student-athlete is responsible for knowing and abiding by the George Mason University Honor Code."

How exactly do you suggest handling internally violations of rules that warrant at minimum game suspensions? The problem is not how we are handling it (which we are and holding the players accountable), the problem is the choices these guys are making.

Final exams for the Fall 2015 semester begins on 12/14 and ends 12/19.

So my guess is Marko is in trouble for plagiarism on a paper for an upper level finance class.
If it is for a paper then it should be resolved quickly. It is pretty much a zero and a mark on the student's academic record.

However if it is for an exam he got to take early and it happens to be with professor Pilloff, Gallay, or Canterbury................:sidedead:. It could last for months before a decision is made.
