I think I have been very respectful.

Really? Then there is the one where you were implying something about us on here, but the post has been conveniently deleted. Fortunately, it was preserved for posterity:

It really ticks me off that all of you feel so comfortable to use words like ... the new one for today is the color guy
That one is a classic for the ages. Do you even watch any basketball on TV or listen on the radio? That term is used in almost every broadcast.

That is now twice you have accused all or most of us of something on here. So, please stop acting like you are innocent.

What's interesting is hewitts comments in umass post game re outside people his players are listening to. Curious if he was talking bout some of these alleged mean parents Jollay is referring to. Cuz I know damn well no nba agents are calling.

GS, it could be parents maybe...it could also be a myriad of other things also. We all know we live in this hyper social media age, I'm sure the players read all kinds of things on the web or hear all kinds of things on campus or from friends. I did find that interesting he said that as well. From what I've researched, it seems that Hewitt has, in the past, had issues with outside criticism of his teams at GT. I've read he stopped reading articles from one of their local newspapers because of said criticism and I think he also got annoyed at one point for the lack of fan support down there. Whatever the case, the base point I think he was trying to make was that it can be hard to get kids to focus on the game.

Brian,

It appears that Jollay is "ricky".

Not sure how questioning the use of color guy and saying I was ticked because of all the putdowns ie., retards and coach bashing was nothing but factual information. Yes, I do watch a lot of basketball but not on tv, so I have never heard that term before.
My issue has been and is with all of the negative talk against the team (all the players) and coach and his staff. I am not acting innocent...seems like you are trying to twist what I have said.

Woooo, just finished reading what's been happening...

In general I'd like to say that fans get as frustrated as those who are playing or those who are very close to the program, and certain choice words get used. "Retarded" being one of the words used has become more of a social norm and used in place of "stupid" more often than it use to. My wife absolutely hates the usage of that word, but that's because she studied Sociology and has it pretty much ingrained in her mind that it's bad. I on the other hand don't seem to mind it, but that's because I know it's not being used as a literal description.

The Color Guy/Color Commentator/etc is the name for the play-by-play announcer. Wiki link for further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_commentator -- For those that haven't heard the term I think we all can understand the misinterpretation, and can move on past that.

So, let's put the terminology aside and just accept that there's been some misunderstandings and whatever else. I really don't want to have to lock down this thread and/or start actually doing the job of moderating. Sometimes people need to learn to agree to disagree, and also just understand there is more than one viewpoint on any topic at any point in time.

What we can all agree on is we're not doing as well as we'd all hoped, and we're all a bit frustrated (all at different things).

This really has nothing to do with the discussion, but I remember once when a Mason prof told me "let's agree to disagree" when she was dead wrong. :D

It's pretty hard to change a persons opinion on anything, regardless if they're completely wrong or not. It's much easier to just walk away... haha

Yea, insinuating that people are racist because they use the term "color guy" is amazingly wrong on so many levels....

This is why players and anyone connected to them should stay off of message boards. I know I would if I had a kid playing.

Calling young men retards is so wrong on so many levels!

Ricky, people are now just using the word to rile you up... I expect it'll be more commonplace now than ever.

The issue is that "ricky" sees one or two people do or say something he (or she) disagrees with, he then accuses everyone or most of the people on here of being something. That is much worse than someone using a word that someone else may or may not find offensive.

If you have problem with what an individual is saying on here, then address it to that individual. Don't cast aspersions on the whole community.

I can admit when I am wrong.... I do apologize for including all or most of you, I have worked with individuals with disabilities and how they are treated and viewed is just wrong . It is just not right to refer to any individual as a retard ever! But those are my views and just mine.

What if you're French and they are late all the time -- like, they're late getting out to shooter, or late sliding over to help on defense, or late getting the ball into the post, or late passing it to an open shooter coming off a screen? In that case, retarded (French for delayed) would be an apt description of our players, yes?

Come on, folks, I know Jollay was intentionally trying to push buttons, but are we really defending the use of the word "retard" or "retarded"? I'm blessed that my kids are healthy, but I think anybody with a mentally-challenged child would tell you the term is very offensive.

As someone who has worked with kids with disabilities over the past 13 years, using the word is offensive to me and is something I would never do. I can understand the anger from people against using it.
