Good first game overall. First half jitters led to many bad shots and defense. Second half the team came alive behind Mincy's offense and Kanga's defense. I really like Kanga he plays good position defense and is a rim protector, once he blocked a couple shots Wofford didn't drive very much. I hope we can keep him for a few years. Once BOC went down, Kory Mincy took over the offense, he is a good passer and a legit 3 PT threat. Troutman, Long, Adebayo and Allenspach all contributed at various points in the game. Presley and Ellington came off the bench and played well also. This team can go 9-10 deep and not miss a beat. Good opener.

Just got home from the game. Many thoughts.

The final score was better than expected. I thought we might win by 11.
Mincy played like a stud, hopefully more to come.
Troutman and Kanga have the potential to be ELITE defenders.
Team defense was strong.
Offense, as always this early, will evolve.
Student attendance was better than expected, thanks @Stoolguy for your efforts. They still don't know what to do and sat on their hands too much but for a first effort I'll take it.
The DJ did not annoy me because he didn't say anything, he just played music.
The Green Machine was up to par, which is a very high bar.
Overall attendance was poor, but I'm used to that. Many past season ticket holders near me were absent. Driven out by cost or just couldn't make it? Time will tell.
The Gold Room was a major disappointment. Same tired act. Wegman's for food. Long lines, no seating, yada yada yada. "Improvements to come". I sure as hell hope so.
Great seeing friends and loyal Mason fans.
The O'Connor injury is of concern. I hope to get some official word on his status, not the shit show we've seen with Fatt Hill. Transparency with a fan base is always a good thing.

On to game 2, which I hope will be another Patriot win.
Going to keep trying to push more and more students to come. That is just the first step- getting students to learn all the cheers and making a larger difference is the next step!! If anyone has any suggestions or things the account can do/students can do in general to improve the overall environment I’m all ears.

Have the students stand. In coordination with the DJ have a song the students can sing after a big play. Once that dies down have the green machine kick in. Get on YouTube and watch Utah State, Grand Canyon or other student sections. Before the next game put on screen to tell students how to support the team. Copy what those other programs do or do something similar. Good Grief I cannot believe that in a meeting with the student section, Doc Nix and the DJ that this could not be accomplished. Call in a senior ROTC Cadet to lead this effort - the cadet has leadership abilities. My two cents.

Watched the second half. This team has a lot of good defenders. It’s going to be hard to wear them down because even Sivka and Booker can come in and give a few solid minutes if needed.

Offense looked more dynamic with Mincy running the point. Will be interesting to see how that plays out between Long, Mincy, and O’Connor (assuming his sprain isn’t bad). I think there was a point when all three of them were out there.

Will be hard for this team to score against teams who pack it in against us again or who can match our athleticism (a lot of the A10) unless Troutman and Long can show more consistent range. Might have some 55-54 games again.

Allensbach showing a light touch at the FT line in the second half.

Like the potential defense of an Adebayo/Kanga frontcourt.

Liked the athleticism of Troutman and Presley. Troutman, not a great ballhandler in traffic though.

Once this team gels and is more connected, this defense might be scarily suffocating.

Early Kenpom--moved from #91 to #82. Puts us at 5th in A10 behind Dayton, vcu, SLU, & GW.

Lots of "green" cells on team defensive stats (that's a good thing!). e.g. Adjusted Def Efficiency #47, Effective Def FG% #15.

Focus on the front row(s). They stand and cheer, the rest will follow.

The student turn out was really good last night, and most of them actually stayed until the end. I hate to say it but its almost like we need a "cheerleader" (Not an actual cheerleader) like most MLS / NWSL teams have the front of their supporter sections, getting the fans rowdy, leading chants, being the voice that gets the students engaged no matter the score. The students have to be into it, on their feet most of the time (not all the time, lets take baby steps). We have to find a way to create the student fan culture, because right now its kind of non-existent.

Lots to like about the game last night, but the highlight for me was how Kory came out in the second half after BO went out. He took control and made a statement. Very impressive for the first game with a new team. Not only was the team captain out of the game, but also one of the leading scorers and he stepped up in both departments. Big ups to Kory for rising to the occasion.

We have the mason maniacs which I assume are to do that- I can follow up to see if there's anything they can do to lead some cheers.
