that's three unconfirmed declinations joining Williford, and Odom....

Why did we even bother talking to the head coach of a team in a better conference. What possible reason would he have to downgrade?

We offered the job to Ryan Odom even though the Mountain West is currently a far better league than the A-10. Sometimes you have to shoot your shot.

again, those names are declinations mentioned on twitter, I don't know if ANY of them are truthful rumors.

if we want young up and comers, why not look at the Duke staff? what about Jai Lucas? He is a fast riser in the industry. what about Nolan Smith at Louisville too? I know everyone is sold on Tony, but there has to be a reason why he's not the coach and it's almost Wednesday.

Everything I can tell is that all of these rumors are complete BS. They might have a hint of truth in that their agents reached out and it was obvious that there was no way the two would come to an agreement so they went their separate ways, but, I am very confident that no actual offer was made to any of them.

Let me posit this. You are the agent for someone with the last name Modo. You show interest in the Mason job. It gets leaked that you are in the mix for the job. For whatever reason, you aren't going to get the offer. Do you want it to look like you didn't get the offer? No, that lowers your perceived value. So, you leak it out that you turned them down. A school could go and deny it, but that doesn't help them much, it just looks like a tit-for-tat situation that doesn't look good to other candidates, potentially.

Right. Much better for the school to take the approach of not commenting.... Just because Dick Weiss calls your old man and he says "oh yea, he turned that one down" doesn't mean it happened like that. This whole process kind of reminds me of the leadup to the NFL draft.

I'm assuming this is just the "search firm"--if it is being used---going down a list of "potentials" to ask if there's interest for more conversation---and there isn't. All for the public hiring file.

However, I still have no faith that they won't mess this up.......

A few days ago we were being assured by our insiders that things were moving rapidly. Since then, Crickets. I'm getting nervous.

Probably my post you are referring to. I believe I used the phrase "appropriate urgency". Not exactly the same as rapidly, but close. I am hopeful for an announcement by the end of the week. If it goes much beyond that, I might start to have concerns like many of you.

Courtney makes no sense, he went 60-113 before getting run out of town at his sole HC gig -- if he gets hired here then there needs to be an uproar from the fanbase because that would be a spectacularly poor hire given his record.

I dislike Courtney being in the mix but I will say do you think he holds any value in the NIL area given what he's seen unfold at Miami being an assistant there? Could that be an asset to help to get that going in the right direction at Mason? That's probably the only way I could sell this guy to myself.
