Almost forgot about Caleb Porter, just saw he was playing for #5 ranked Nevada on ESPNNews right now.

Is it fair to say ACorn underachieved? Absolute dipshit off the court but a starter on our best team ever.

Also curious how they sourced that list of top recruits. Doesn't exactly jive with my recollection of recruiting rankings. I remember being more excited about Pearson and Morrison than Paris freaking Bennett.

In re: Acorn- absolutely underachieved. There was a lot of legit hype for him coming out of NC as a 3 star (a real 3 star) recruit, and I believe he was going to be a PG, but he played mostly off guard next to Cam while at Mason.

Pearson was underrated but had a great senior year that other programs came calling. I suspect his leg issue was the reason why he wasn't called from the get go.

Its funny looking back at those recruiting rankings showing who underachieved and who never panned out. Yet some of the Mason greats never come close to a list like that.

Long wasn’t a point guard on that team either. The closest thing we had to a point guard was Luke Hancock. It was weird, we kept recruiting players who were listed at point guard who couldn’t play the position.

Reason I think stars matter is b/c a 3 and 4 star kids' bodies are a bit bigger and stronger than say 1 or 2 star guy. That is all. Go Mason #1 Practice Team.

The stars seem to be less indicative of a quality recruit as to who is recruiting them. I tend to trust the consensus of successful coaches over some guy that may have never seen the recruit play. I guess where my radar starts to register concern is that we don't seem to be competing against similar level schools for most of our recruits. I appreciate that DP has talent to find diamonds in the rough and uses his teaching skills to turn them into star players. But, can he be seeing something in just about every recruit that no other coaches from similar or higher level schools can see, every time? Conversely, it would be nice to get someone who already has some polish, so DP can take them that much further.

This 100%
I don't know the first thing about recruiting and haven't been to see a high school team play in years. Stars are subjective. I make my uneducated assumptions on our recruits by the schools we beat out for said players. If St Joes, UMass and Dayton are all after the same guy we are, I'm going to make the assumption that kid is an A10-level player. If its us, Towson, Liberty and Radford then I get worried that the player isnt ready for our league. Its ok to take a kid like that once in a while, but you certainly can't build a top A10 program by loading up with those types of players.

That says it all!!

LOL! In what version of reality does that say it all?

I watched and it's a clip of Wahab, who looks like a very good player and ranked a top 30 center w/offers to ACC schools, scoring eight baskets.

In those 8, one is an uncontested layup and the other a breakaway dunk from a long pass. He's also going up against #'s 20, 5, & 24 on the PVI team.

Like Gunnie asked, what number is Oduro now? Because w/out that, I'm having trouble figuring out how to evaluate a short highlight reel focusing on Wahad (not Oduro), much less it "saying it all."

Holy F-Balls, are we now really ripping on commits a year before they set foot on campus?

Well, we tried to get Wahab, but seeing his final list I see we had very little chance of ever getting him to come here.

Oduro is a project at best

I'm sure he is but they obviously see enough upside in him. Most bigs are projects unless they are Wahab and they won't end up coming to Mason. They also wanted Oduro versus the big that GW got who's name escapes me.

And who knows if Oduro will even play next year, with Reuter and Calixte up front at the 5, I could see him taking a redshirt.

GW took Chase Paar.
