2019 Recruiting

GIVING DAY 2023
Painter had offers from just about every single A-10 program: St. Joes, Mason, GW, Fordham, URI, La Salle, Davidson, and Richmond.

He never should’ve gone to Villanova. Another kid who got starstruck instead of picking a school where he could play and contribute.

He’d still be a good get for us, though.

Considering who we had on our roster his freshman season, he might have been a day one starter if he could play alongside Jalen Jenkins. Also, might have avoided wasting a scholarship on Temara or Relvao.

After watching the first 3 games, every position on our roster is upgradable next season. If Painter can outpreform the players on our 19-20 roster then he’ll have plenty of the minutes he desires.

I realize this is an obvious statement and should always be the case. It’s just a little more apparent recently.

247 sports has an interesting feature on Mason's recruiting page - they show the ranking of all of our commitments (going back to at least 2003). The top 25 is littered with transfers and disappointments, but includes Hartwell as #20 and Xavier Johnson as #22:

If you look at all of them, Makan Konate was rated higher as a recruit than Gabe Norwood and Tony Skinn, which is about the most hilarious thing in the world.

Also, we seem to be consistently ranked in the bottom third in the A10 for recruiting (12th for 2019, 11th for 2018).

He's increased his assists to .8 a game which means he gives it up once in a while. He only shot it when he had it at GMU.

well considering our current team averages 11 assists a game and half of those are Otis it seems like he would have fit right in. :D

Is it fair to say ACorn underachieved? Absolute dipshit off the court but a starter on our best team ever.

Also curious how they sourced that list of top recruits. Doesn't exactly jive with my recollection of recruiting rankings. I remember being more excited about Pearson and Morrison than Paris freaking Bennett.

He’s playing for the guy I wanted us to hire before we hired Paulsen. His record isn’t so great at Milwaukee, so shows you how much I know about hiring coaches.

Louis Birdsong was also Baltimore player of the year and thought he would have been higher on the list.

I don’t remember Paris Bennett being that highly ranked either, but they have AJ Wilson asbhaving no rank at all, so who knows.

Remember, Paris played on the #4 nationally ranked team. It was so good that Kyrie Irving who was a Junior played on that team and wasn't even the start player. That was Dexter Strickland who was a McD's All American and UNC commit.
