I’d have to bet vcu loses Hill.

As long as Tony is our coach he’ll find the players he’s looking for in this current musical chairs transfer portal landscape.

The finished middle of the pack, made the NIT like we did and got farther than we did. That’s not the same thing as being La Salle.
Ok fine... imagine if we were a middle of the pack team who had no shot at winning the A-10, I'm glad that we can start fresh the following season with the portal and that we're not stuck with that mediocre team for more than a year.

Am I the only one that's happy that vcu is bringing back their whole squad? It lets Tony know exactly the kind of guys he needs to go out and get in order to match up and challenge them.

Ok. Maybe. But we finished middle of the pack in 2005 (16-13 and 10-8) and adding just two freshmen (Flemming and Hernandez) we finished 27-8 and made the Final Four the very next year.

Do we keep Campbell, Thomas, Butler, Skinn, and Jai Lewis in the portal/NIL era? Or does Larranaga have to start over again?

Very similar between 2010 and 2011 (17-15 in 2010 vs. 27-7 the very next year with basically the same roster).

The timeframes you are comparing to might as well be a different sport at this point with all the ways the sport has changed.

I know. But we are comparing the two eras. And it was possible to have pretty big single season turnarounds in the old era with being “stuck” with largely the same roster. Players got better, stronger, more experienced, and the longer they play together became better teams.

We are never going back, but I don’t know that having 11 new players every year fills me with more hope than the roster continuity of the old era.
