We looked gassed. I forget the actual stat they showed, but aren't we in the top 10 in starters logging minutes?

That, and can't turn the ball over 16 times.

I missed it too. Looks like that, turnovers, and poor 3 point shooting.

It happens, I'm not going to get too bent out of shape about wins and losses this year. We'll see where we are with English in 2 years. I'm still excited about the future.

We played the way they wanted us to play. It's the same gameplan they've had since Davidson. Chase the shooters everywhere on the floor, play off the non-shooters and dare them to shoot with the added wrinkle of doubling Oduro whenever he got the ball (they guarded Brajkovic one v one and he had 21). We needed Gaines to be more assertive and XJ to be smarter with his shot selection. It also would have been nice to have a bench to come in and give us a different look, but that's impossible right now (for instance, we could have used a Marquise Moore type in this one -- oh, you're going to play 8 feet off me? I don't care, I'm going by you anyway and you're going to have to foul me to stop me).

Doesn't matter much, But we had like 3 or 4 weeks off with the covid ordeal.

Like someone said, This is coach English's worst coaching performance. A team was able to take away our strengths however it seems we cannot do the same to them on defense.

They scored 50 points and the only player who really killed us what Ohams, and that had a lot to do with Oduro being in foul trouble.

For the first time since the Dayton game, defense wasn’t our issue. I mean think about it this way, it was 47-44 at the under-4:00 timeout. They game ended 47-50. 6 total points scored in the last 3:45 or so of the game. It was ugly.

Did we ever exploit their smaller than Hartwell guard? Why does Jamal get posted up but we can't seem to take advantage of similar instances??? We just play our offense and use analytics???

Jeez, we don’t win the the A10 this year with a rookie head coach and people just want to just stew in a broth of misery. “Worse coaching job” was mentioned a 100 times on this thread alone. We got it the first 50 times.

I did not watch the game. When I saw the score my first thought was Oduro must have been in foul trouble. I was right.

Yes, but so is Neptune, who had three good players to start the year and was down to 1 and still figured out how to make our team play the way they wanted.

Do you think if we were missing Schwartz and Cooper that Hartwell and Jones could come in and do that?

Lost to GW, La Salle, and now Fordham.

What’s concerning to me is that the team doesn’t seem to be getting better. They are not playing their best basketball right now (and they should be).

Admittedly didn't watch so can't comment on the play or game plan, and agree w/the overall sentiment of a rookie coach is going to have growing pains. I'll go back to the peak of our hype in pre-season where I repeatedly posted to the affect of "slow your roll, ya'll" because CKE is in his first season and no matter how good a coach, also going to to go through a learning curve. Krzyzewski went 6-8, 4-10, & 3-11 his first three ACC seasons. In year 4 he went 7-7, and then in year 5, he made it to the Nat'l Championship. If he did that here, he'd have the fanbase calling for his head after year 3.

But I also have to agree that on paper, this does look like one of his worst coaching performance this season. He had a full roster and lost to a Fordham team that had only won 4 games prior.

We have to get Jamal going if we want to show out what's left of this season. He's the only experienced guy on the bench that could come in and give us 6-9 points off the bench. He is comfy in the offense and knows it. If he can find a way to limit liability on defense I don't see why he cannot help us as a 6th or 7th man. It's also time for Blake Jones to show his early season form and start hitting some shots. Otherwise we're looking at a crash landing to the end of this season.

I agree with the sentiment that we need another scorer but 28% from 3 and 22% from TWO after getting chance after chance says "comfy in the offense"?

If Jones is going to start scoring it’s got to be of the pick and roll variety he got on his one shot attempt last game. Defenses aren’t paying that much attention to him so if you get him rolling to the basket he should get a couple of easy looks until defenses realize he can actually catch on the run and finish at the rim. And then maybe he’ll be allowed to take an open corner 3.

Right now, half the starters and the entire bench aren’t really taking smart shots and not playing the way English says he wants them to play. Green light? Sure. But get the ball into the paint first and if you don’t have a layup, look for the open shooter. These guys are like, oh they’re leaving me open from 25 feet? Shoot it!

So, I have a question regarding charge fouls. If I understand correctly, the rule recently changed that they can move their feet a little (I was told the equivalent of shuffling) and still consider having established position. In one of the charge calls against JO in the Fordham game, the defender had his foot in the air (taking a significant step).

So the question is this, Is is possible for it to be legitimately a charge if one of the defenders feet is several inches in the air when contact is made?

He misses. I get that. But he knows the offense unlike some younger guys. KE is the guy to instill the confidence to turn "misses" into makes. Team needs someone else to hit shots and I think Jamal should get some mins to do it. There isn't anyone else with his experience.

We are not running the same offense that we did under Dave so they are all literally on equal footing with "knowing the offense". Hartwell has only hit double figures on 3 occasions this season, and has not scored a single point since he hit a 3 against La Salle. Prior to that, he hadn't scored since American before Christmas. I agree with the sentiment but unsure why you chose Hartwell for this example over literally any other bench player.

Think it was more of a clarification/point of emphasis rather than a rule change. The defender is entitled to his position if established.

The answer to your second question is clearly yes since it has happened multiple times in our games this season. Also doesn't really matter where the defender's foot is if you drop your shoulder and just bull rush at him, as was the case. Pretty telling when neither JO or KE were arguing that call. Both of them knew it was a bone-headed play.
