Mason can't shoot and Duquesne can't defend, so Mason loses 3-2 on the road after 40 minutes of offensive rebound practice.

Like most teams, Duquesne plays much better at home. They're explosive from the 3 -- not a good thing for us -- and they also have a center with the length to bother Thompson like Ndoye from Bona did.

We're gonna get smacked.

Not confident about this one for the reasons you mentioned, though GMU did win at Duquesne last year.

Looked at the stats. Duquesne's center doesn't have near the same skill as Ndoye has though. The 3 point shooting is probably a bigger obstacle to a win.

I assume that Mason's scouting report will indicate who to foul down the stretch. The Dukes are currently ranked 345th & last in D-I in FT%: 58.2% (213-366).

Wow, you could pretty much foul anyone with those kinds of numbers.

Much dissatisfaction with their coach and the AD that hired him to a 6 yr contract being expressed on the Duquesne boards. Has a familiar ring to it.
The Hewitt situation and this type of thing has me wondering why ADs seem powerless to put some sort of performance based clause in the contracts, that say, lets the school out of the contract's last year or two without having to pay if the conference record is below X, or something like that.

Rpiforecast is projecting pretty much a pickem' game--we're favored by .6.

According to that site, we're only favorites in 2 other games this season:
8.2 pts at home against Fordham
.9 away at SLU

Seems logical enough but my guess is that it's the market--coaches won't agree to that and a coach in demand will find a school that will not include such clauses.

That is my guess to, but you would think in some situations the school is in the drivers seat. In our case, maybe TOC was so concerned after L left and he was so hopeful for Hewitt's prospects, that there was not negotiating, especially in light of the longevity bonus.

It would have been nice if the AD had planned for the contingency of making Hewitt go away early (like at the end of last year), like saving the unearned bonuses.

It would be nice to plan for that with the upcoming hire as well, though, since we are already a train wreck, might not be as necessary as if it had been done with the current hire.

Mason's game notes - see http://www.gomason.com/fls/25200/Game Notes/Men's Basketball/MBB_Game_Notes.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=25200.

http://www.goduquesne.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/013015aab.html:

" Three of DU's four A-10 home games have come down to the last possession - a 71-68 win over Saint Joseph's, a 61-60 loss to Rhode Island and a 100-97 OT loss to St. Bonaventure. In the fourth game, DU had the ball down two with under two minutes left in its 70-64 loss to No. 17 (AP) vcu at CONSOL Energy Center."

Looks like the series history in the game notes doesn't include any of our pre-A10 meetings. Mason is actually 5-3 all time against Duquesne, if my numbers are right. We've also won our last two trips to the Palumbo Center.

You are correct (from the Duquesne website above):

"THE SERIES

• This is the 9th meeting in a relatively new series that dates to New Year's Eve of 2001 ... Mason leads the series 5-3 (3-1 at Pittsburgh) ... this is the third meeting between the two as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference ... Mason is one of five home-and-home opponents for the Dukes."

We should win this one. I would even be more confident if I knew Mike Rudy was going to get significant minutes.

Vegasinsider opens with Duquesne a 1 pt favorite but currently Mason is now a 1 pt favorite
