From wikipedia--they seemed to have peaked early (way before the 64/68 team NCAAs). Haven't been to the NCAAs since '77 and only been over .500 in A10 five times since then.

Thanks for the info. I recall my preschool teacher being a big fan of that '77 team.

St. Joe's beat Davidson I see. I was actually rooting for Davidson so GMU could climb out of the 11-14 first day of A-10 tournament teams, if only for a few hours.

vcu vs teams with decent guards = avg.

BINGO! That's why their gimmick defense doesn't work in the NCAAT more often than not. I give Shaka credit for creating a style that works against most opponents, but teams with very good backcourts can break the press and avoid a ton of turnovers. And without those easy transition points, vcu is reduced to a mediocre half-court team that lives and dies by the 3.

Gimmick defense? I'd take their gimmick home record over the last couple of years

I didn't make a single comment about our program in my post, so your vcu envy while warranted is a little misplaced. And, yes, it is a gimmick, so much so that they actually have a name for it. (Can you name another team whose style of play has a name?) On those rare occasions when havoc doesn't create havoc — as GSII point out and I concurred — vcu is an average team.

Just to make you feel better, havoc will kick the living shit out of us Wednesday. And then you can envy their road record as well. (Edit: I just saw that Weber might be out, so that does make their gimmick defense much less potent.)

Enough about vcu. It does look like our game is being streamed on the A10 Network. I can't tell yet if there is a charge, but being the glutton for punishment that I am, I will probably pay to watch it while also watching the Wizards/Raptors game on TV

There are plenty. Mostly it is offenses, and vcu seems to be named more off of their defense but these come to mind right away:
Princeton: The Princeton Offense
Kentucky : Dribble Drive
Chattanooga: Chaos
Mason: Panic, Crap, Confusion (though Hewitt said at an even that he runs a Dribble Drive but I don't recognize what he is actually trying to do)

wijg, the Mason one should be trademarked instantly. Nice. Good call on Princeton. I watch a ton of college basketball, and I've never heard that name used for Kentucky's style (although it makes sense). As for Chattanooga, I'll have to take your word for it. I honestly didn't know they had a program let alone a system with a name.

Paul Hewitt's pregame speech

OK, we won a game yesterday. If we win today, it's called "two in a row". And if we win again tomorrow, it's called a "winning streak"... It has happened before!

Where did I mentioned Mason in mine? I can't envy winning now? LOL

Envy them all you want. My comment was just an observation about their style of play, not a comparison of our two programs. I am interested to see how Corey and Moore do against their press Wednesday, especially if Weber is out.

It looks like it may be free, at least if you access it through the Duke's website by clicking the "Live Video" link and selecting "Live Events":

Chattanooga's coach, Will Wade, is a former Shaka assistant. He's the one who brought "Chaos" to their program.
