Charleston
Out: Pat Kelsey
"Considered among the top five-or-so mid-major jobs in the country because of its location, there will be ridiculous competition for this gig. Sitting head coaches will be targeted, as they should, but if there is one assistant who might be the pick, UConn's Luke Murray will be in the mix. Knows the area and has been waiting for the right job. If Charleston chooses to pick a high-major assistant instead of a sitting head coach, he's going to be as strong a candidate as any."

James Madison
Out: Mark Byington
"Byington was hired on Monday as next coach at Vanderbilt after leading the Dukes to a 32-4 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance this season. Extremely good mid-major job that will have a fierce competition to succeed Byington. The candidate pool is exclusively head coaches, I'm told."

Saint Louis
Out: Travis Ford
"SLU sacked Ford moments after the team's season ended in the A-10 Tournament. He was there eight seasons and went to one NCAA Tournament. Many in the business believe this program has been an underachiever vs. its potential for decades. With no hire yet, it's only fair to assume SLU is waiting on a coach whose season is still ongoing. Josh Schertz is the presumptive guy here."

I don't get CoC being a top five mid major job in the country because of location. Is that really how job desirability is determined? The vcu job must be a bottom five then. CoC is in the god awful CAA. It is only a good job now because they had a good coach.

It might also be in terms of what type of resources they have. I heard they have a sizable NIL fund as well. They also paid Kelsey upwards of 1m a year (not sure of exact breakdowns)

"ESPN’s Jeff Borzello is reporting that Southern Illinois is expected to hire Wright State’s Scott Nagy as their new head basketball coach.

Nagy has 29-years experience as a head coach having serving the past eight at Wright State, and the previous 21 seasons at South Dakota State. He holds an overall career mark of 577-332 (.635) and did not win less than 18 games/yr during his stay at WSU.

Nagy would replace SIU alum Bryan Mullins, who was released after going 19-13 this past season.

More on this move once in becomes official."

Sure but there are at least 5 schools in the A10 better than Charleston, not to mention the Mountain West or Missouri Valley.

And if we are talking strictly resources, the Christian juggernauts of GCU and Liberty can toss as much as they want at their basketball teams.

Maybe top 5 mid-major job currently open? They would definitely be behind SLU there for sure.

Kelsey stayed at Winthrop longer than anyone thought he was going to, and had chances to jump to a P6 job from there. He seems more focused on moving to the right program vs. chasing a bag. More power to him.

"Joyce III, a native of Akron, Ohio, has spent the last two seasons as associate head coach with the Dukes, helping guide Duquesne to an overall record of 45-25 (.643), including a 20-16 (.556) mark in the Atlantic 10, during that span."

"Southern Illinois University Carbondale has named Scott Nagy the 15th men’s basketball head coach in the program’s history.

With nearly three decades of head coaching experience at Wright State and South Dakota State, Nagy has a career 577-332 (.635) record and ranks No. 18 in wins among active Division I head coaches."

Chris Mack to Charleston. Great move.

"Mack is expected to become the next head coach at Charleston, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday night. Mack is the former head coach at Louisville and Xavier and has led his teams to nine NCAA tournament appearances in 13 years.

Mack hasn't coached since being fired by Louisville in January 2022, a departure that led to that school's ill-fated hiring of Kenny Payne.

Mack's best work came at Xavier, which he led to five consecutive NCAA tournaments during the school's first five years in the Big East to close his tenure there. He led Xavier to eight NCAA appearances in nine total seasons as head coach.

He'll take over a Charleston program that has been at the top of the Coastal Athletic Association the past two years and reached the NCAA tournament in each of the past two years under head coach Pat Kelsey. who earlier this week was named Louisville's coach.

Charleston has seven NCAA appearances in school history and its coaching lineage includes Bobby Cremins and John Kresse.

Mack's hiring is a bold one for Charleston, which has been atop the speculation for the Atlantic 10 in the wake of UMass' upcoming departure to the Mid-American Conference. If Charleston is added to the conference in the coming months, Mack would give the A-10 a proven and consistent winner. He is 278-133 in 13 years as a head coach. He won a pair of A-10 regular season titles and one Big East regular season title while at Xavier."

Remember when Pat Kelsey wanted the Mason job but we hired Kimmie? We dodged that bullet. Sure, we likely would have had two NCAA tournament appearances but would have lost our coach.

Kelsey didn't want the Mason job. We were linked to him and Brad liked him, but he was in no hurry to visit Mason / not very interested.

"Calhoun led Youngstown State to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history. He went 118-106 in seven seasons there, winning a Horizon League regular-season title in 2022-23 and the only NIT bid in school history.

Utah State moved quickly to replace Danny Sprinkle, who left the program Monday for Washington after one season in Logan. First-year athletic director Diana Sabau ran an efficient and targeted search that prioritized head-coaching experience.

According to sources, Utah State plans to give Calhoun a strong commitment to a staff salary pool. In the wake of the Aggies' regular-season Mountain West title and first-round NCAA win over TCU, the school is aiming to keep the roster intact and the momentum going to stay atop the conference.

At 42, Calhoun has experience beyond his age. He led Youngstown State to the school's only conference title as a Division I program. His winning percentage (52%) is more than 10 percent higher than the school's all-time win percentage, a sign of how he defied historical norms during his time there."

"Sargent has been on the Wright State coaching staff since 2016, including serving as the associate head coach the last three seasons. He will be formally introduced to the media on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Mills Morgan Center/Setzer Pavilion."

You probably know more inside information than me, but I heard he did want the job.
