No but really how do we get them new uniforms? Best pep band in the country wearing stuff from the clearance rack of the bookstore. Would definitely donate for some new threads.

Who handles their fundraising. I'm sure there's got to be a way to do a targeted campaign.

I feel like the school should work with Adidas and they would come up with something. Even if it's marching band-esque it would still be better.

I like the Green Machine's gams. They look like mega-fans playing musical instruments. It gives them a blue-collar, rebellious appearance. Uniforms similar to a marching band or "normal" pep band will make them look like a "normal" pep band.

Yes, they must keep the individual flair, in line with the other great pep and scramble bands, including UVa (of old pre 2003) and Stanford. No marching band outfits. No uniform polo and khakis. No way.

Rather than giving $500 to the green machine I'd just donate $500 worth of shirts.

I'm with Jack - their uniforms shirts are part of the crazy enthusiasm. A kid can buy a personalized uniform shirt with their 'name' on the back if they want one - and some are pretty creative. Otherwise they grab a shirt outta stock and add a wig or face paint and they're ready.

You're not talking a tshirt order here. What would you rather? Tshirts, polo's? Hockey shirts? Suits like Doc?

If the 150 number is correct from the article - the cost for new uniform shirts would be pretty high. Think how many in how many different sizes and then form the committee and make the recommendation.

I think Doc would rather equipment, instruments, electronics and amplifiers -- why don't you ask him. He's pretty accessible.

I'm with most people here that polo's or something of that nature take away from it, I just think that the current uniforms look cheap. I think some green jersey's that look closer to what the players wear would be good. Same deal, you could customize the back, nothing about the wigs of face paint would go away.

Take a look at Stanford scramble band for hoops.
This is one of the premier (and priciest) schools in America and they're having a blast in a rumpled up bucket hat, a flimsy red vest and some kind of white shirt they picked up off the dorm room floor. They could give two hoots if it looks cheap. Bunch of college kids being college kids and having fun. That's the charm.

Isn't this the one that's always in the news for offending people? (Which I think is hilarious)

Bleacher Report's Top 10 Controversies Involving the Stanford Band. They have been "banned" in many places.
Some of these are really funny. The mock wedding to The Dollies at BYU while announcing "I now pronounce you man and wife...and wife...and wife...and wife... " :chuckle:

Honestly, with the hypersensitivity on campuses these days I'm amazed they've survived. UVa scramble band didn't and were completely disbanded in 2011. By the way if you have the chance, read some of the articles on the life of the Stanford Tree. Being selected as Tree is an absolutely insane process.

Keep in mind, the Stanford mascot is a protest against PC mascot choices...and I think has been banned in a few places itself.

Stanford is politically kind of the anti-Berkeley of the Bay Area.

Correct. The Tree was a reaction to the university replacing the American Indian with...a tree. (I believe a Redwood which is in the school logo) And the boosters got pissed and said, well, we'll give you a tree...the ugliest and goofiest damn tree you've ever seen. And it turned out to be a monster hit. Except with the school administration, which does not recognize Tree as an official mascot, and so Tree is actually an official member of the pep band. And you are right, some of the Trees have done some crazy stuff and gotten thrown out...I seem to remember one who stormed the court after a bad call and started throwing chairs across the floor. I'll see if I can find the great Tree article I read and will update this post if I find it.

Pretty good Tree article, which is a shorter summary of the one I read earlier. One Tree candidate actually severed a pinky toe and amazingly was NOT selected.

Wow, this thread is 4 years old and then we were complaining about how those yellow jersey's were hideous. Looks like they're finally upgrading those Jerseys!!!!

Members of the #1 pep band in the nation are often recognized by their signature jerseys. Unfortunately, after years of service, our vendor has had to close their doors and no one else has been able to recreate our look. Therefore, it’s time for a redesign. Rather than force this financial burden onto our students, we need your help to purchase replacement jerseys for our performers and have a set available for check-out at events. The total cost for this initiative is $14,000.
