MIAMI UPDATE

Miami atmosphere is about what ours is like, quite apathetic. Last year's average attendance was 5,800 as a point of comparison. And yes coaching in the ACC would have its appeal, but he is doing so at a disadvantage funding wise. Whereas Mason was near the top of the CAA, Miami is near the bottom. I would equate their program to Penn State's.

You have to ask yourself why he was offered only 1.3 million to coach at Miami while Shaka was offered 2.5 million to coach at Illinois.

Again a bad day at Miami is still better than Mason. A chart I saw from 2010 showed Mason making 2mil in hoops and Miami making 6.5M. I cant imagine they are making them re-tape aglets if their strings break at the U.

And yes one wonders about the salary discrep. But in the end what matters is this. If L does well....he will make more and more money, his staff will make more and more money AND a school like Miami will spend more to do things when he asks.

Plus I think L likes the "under dog" status and the Miami situation in the ACC plays right into it.

Wardle is an interesting option. There were some questions about his coaching techniques last year, but appears he was mostly cleared by the schools investigation:

He was a candidate for the Marquette job when that was open. He has since signed a five year renewal at GB. Can't find what kind of pay he is getting.

Playing a bunch of freshman, being ranked and getting drubbed by a good mid major=Larranaga Problem

Playing a bunch of 6'7'' guys with no guards, not being ranked and only drubbing Div II squads=Hewitt Problem

Eastern Kentucky has losses to Valpo, East Tennessee State and IUPUI and is under .500. I don't know how "good" they are.

Losing to teams like Green Bay and EKU is not good.

Well, I wasn't necessarily trying to portray EKU as the next Wichita State or vcu or whatever mid major that actually sustained their success.....

But despite losing to GB, they were still ranked 18th in the country prior to EKU. And already beat their highly ranked in-state rival Florida. And still have a good shot at an at large in the NCAAs with a so so season with those "bad" losses. And with only two scholarship players returning from last year in a "rebuilding" year.

Much like the article the other week about vcu....winning a shit load of games in the season and then only making one or two rounds of the NCAAs is their "unfortunate destiny."

Point being, it's all perspective. We can poke holes at who beat who, what's a bad loss, etc....but the fact is our program is in such a sorry state, we would kill to have such "problems."

Bet you 5000000000000000000 dollars they don't finish in the Top 25 after the regular season is done.

What does Larranaga's stunning failure of an epic 28 point loss to a bad team do to my sort of real bet with Herndon???

Good chance he is canned after this year, I'd say. One NCAA appearance in four years is hardly better than any of his predecessors.

Jim, if you are reading this, Shaka still makes more money than you. Better go to your AD.

Nobody cares about what is going on in your neighborhood association, Lawdog.

The question is, if L misses the tourney again this year, is making the tourney once every four years good enough to keep his job?

It wasn't for Perry Clark, but we all know that black coaches like him, Leonard Hamilton and Mr.Hewitt are held to higher standards than people like L.

L must be pretty steamed about Obama normalizing relations with Cuba. I guess that must be the reason Miami hasn't canned him yet and is tolerating another poor coaching job.

It's awfully darn rare that Jollay loses one of these exchanges, but this is one of them.

Well played Lawdog.

Another stunningly poor coached game by L leads to a 76-62 debacle at the hands of Providence.

Fitting. Providence breathing a sigh of relief they didn't go all in on Larranaga all those years ago.
