Improving GameDay Experience

Patriot Lounge I believe is the equivalent of the old gold room but located where the old green room was held. Drink tickets and food included.
Thanks for clarifying.
Have since located this link from July that explains the changes:

Mason men's soccer hosts a playoff game at 3PM on the same day as the Coppin St game. It would be cool if the athletic department did some sort of combo ticket or had some events before the soccer game and before the basketball game to draw people from 1 event/venue to the next.

It’s an A10 playoff so maybe they don’t have as much control over tickets? But I hope the game time was so they can get people out to both. I can only take off so much time from work!

How do we get more people to care about GMU basketball? Are we going to be stuck at 3000 average attendence forever? The UMBC game didnt feel like 3200 people.

Should we bring back the Gold Room + have the Patriot club lounge at the same time?

The good news is that tons of people were at the Courtside Club during halftime.

Hmmmm... given all the clamor, perhaps the strategy of constructing a more pricey hospitality system is diabolical. Some of yous appear to be getting the DTs. If the goal is to dry yous out to the point of delirium, and force hands to open wallets for a $17 beer (or a Patriot Lounge membership), then it might just be working.

A Monumental disappointment. Nyuck nyuck nyuck.

Sodhexo is garbage.

Not saying that Chartwells is much better (because it isn't), but NOT MUCH BETTER is still BETTER.
In terms of just on campus dining, chartwells has been so much better. Maybe they would let students get some free food at games.

I may have misunderstood, but I heard from one of the Patriot Club staffers that, while EBA may still use Sodexho for the concourse concessions, they can use Chartwells for catering… and the new Patriot Lounge (i.e. “the old Green Room”) and Courtside Club (i.e. “the old Student Section bleachers”) qualify as private catering, not arena concessions.

Again, I may have misunderstood, but it makes sense because the Patriot Lounge feels more like a catering operation.

Yes! I believe thats all correct, unfortunately I think sodexho still has a say in what happens in those areas (I just think that, I do not know). Chartwells would do a much better job with those concession stands AND free food for students

From the strategic plan: "Expand operating revenue by leveraging both new and existing funding streams, maximizing financial resources."

I suggest we offer grace as the athletic department searches for new revenue streams. This is the era of the mighty dollar in college sports.

But they killed a revenue stream by essentially ending the Gold Room. The Patriot Lounge isn't the same. And I know of at least 10 tickets that no longer have the accompanying donation/membership for the Gold Room. Maybe that doesn't sound like a lot, but anecdotally, I've heard of many others who did not renew their Patriot Club / Gold Room passes. Cutting yourself off at the knees sure sounds like a great way to increase revenue.

I suspect they are going for a different target, and new targets at higher price points than existing targets at lower price points.

Don’t think that’s the best way to go about it, but I suspect they are willing to take the pain short term if long term they can make it up.

Fair enough, but my complaint isn't about the higher price. I expected to pay a bit more this year, and I would have been willing to had they left the Gold Room as it was. Instead, they limited the entrance tickets for those who pay for more than 2 tickets to only 2 people. I pay for more than 2 tickets and we all should be able to enter. The drink limit didn't bother me so much, but I didn't want to go into the cave that was the Green Room, and then be such in a long line of people who can't see the game while awaiting a stoppage in play. So, my contribution is $2.5k per year they will not collect ... unless something changes, plus not responding to the telephone calls for more money on giving day. Yes, I'm upset. I want to give them money, but they don't want to make it easy for me.

Meanwhile, I've put 2 kids through Mason, for a total of 2 bachelor's, 2 master's, and an almost completed Ph.D. I think I've given them plenty of money.

I think they potentially lost some butts in the seats which we clearly need, but the challenge was that the Gold Room was never a revenue stream, and in today's world it needs to be. Giving fans free food, beer, wine, soda and popcorn 18-20 times a year for $600/head is not a moneymaker, especially when that $600 was in most cases already coming in as a mandatory seat contribution.

Do I think they got a little ahead of their skis by no longer allowing the seat contribution to count towards a hospitality pass the same year they doubled the cost of that pass.... yeah, but the status quo was really not an option if the goal was making money off that room.
