Improving GameDay Experience

Fair enough, but my complaint isn't about the higher price. I expected to pay a bit more this year, and I would have been willing to had they left the Gold Room as it was. Instead, they limited the entrance tickets for those who pay for more than 2 tickets to only 2 people. I pay for more than 2 tickets and we all should be able to enter. The drink limit didn't bother me so much, but I didn't want to go into the cave that was the Green Room, and then be such in a long line of people who can't see the game while awaiting a stoppage in play. So, my contribution is $2.5k per year they will not collect ... unless something changes, plus not responding to the telephone calls for more money on giving day. Yes, I'm upset. I want to give them money, but they don't want to make it easy for me.

Meanwhile, I've put 2 kids through Mason, for a total of 2 bachelor's, 2 master's, and an almost completed Ph.D. I think I've given them plenty of money.
PS, I'll gladly give you money during the next fund raising cycle to keep Masonhoops, and it's various incarnations, going for another 30 years!

Here is a picture of the Courtside club. This picture was taken before the UMBC game started.

During halftime, there was many people there.

I can't help but wonder will the visiting teams free throw percentage go up. No way that big money martini crowd will provide a hostile experience for the visiting team. I predict the same thing with the new student section. I watched them sit on their hands the other night (less four excited students in the front row). Blowouts, no biggie, close games, maybe.

Randomly saw this post from Charlotte’s IG of their student section against Georgia State last night:

Team hasn't been to the tournament since 2004/2005, their student section was packed and all were standing.

Granted, they had half the arena blocked off so they certainly have their own attendance issues overall but I just dont understand why we can’t seem to do the absolute basics as a student section…stand up, wear school colors.

I was told that there was a new lady in charge of game atmosphere/student section. Normally I sit there as a rent a fan/get things going person with 4-7 other rowdy alumni. I view this as service work. They (the ushers) ran us out at her direction. : ( Note I have been going to games since 1994.

I would be remiss if I didn't report an upgrade (?) at EBA with respect to the men's bathrooms.
Above each urinal is a monitor that plays a video of beer being poured into a glass from a tap! I don't know if this counts as input/output satire of the highest order or not, but I was amused by the thought!

Here's a promotional video of the product: https://www.isitemediagroup.com/
I didn't notice any specific brand being advertised--maybe they were inferring an ad for the newly - instituted Beer Garden on the concourse, but there was no indication of that appearing in the video.

Before I discovered this video, I thought that perhaps this was a forerunner of getting tv monitors on the concourse so one could keep up with the game action. I guess the next step is to find some company interested in advertising their brand in the video so Mason can rake in some $$$ off of this "upgrade"!.

Thanks for explaining this. I was confused. I thought it was one of those FLOCK cameras!

Here's what we should build! Rip out the lower-bowl seating, push the court toward one sideline, and make the seating on that side much steeper and shallower. That opens up the opposite sideline for a ton of premium floor-level seating, courtside experiences, and other revenue-generating spaces. Then add these bar areas on both ends of the court to create even more premium viewing and entertainment options.

I know, I know. Just messing around and having some fun with ideas!

I love it but unfortunately you already know the laundry list of excuses on why this won't happen. Everything from "cost" to "closing the building" to "the bowl can't be dug out like that".

I had those thoughts as well! Especially the first time I was confronted by them. No video was running and it was just a blank monitor...appeared to be an outrageous invasion of privacy to say the least!

Gotta give credit to patriot club staff for noticing little kids at courtside club with nowhere to sit and no tables they could reach - then yesterday they put a bunch of lower top tables that were a huge hit with my 7 year old!

I thought I read in my season ticket disclosure that EBA has a no-peaking policy.

What are the chances they can put Paul Hewitt’s face on it?

A Modest Proposal:

Turn off all dormitory WiFi during home games. Leaving the student body with 3 options:
- go somewhere off-campus to study/stream
- go to the library to study/stream
- go to EBA and scream

Perhaps related to what I observed tonight.

In section 102 where my seat is, there were maybe 8-10 students (most had Gold Rush t-shirts slung over their shoulders). A female staffer came over to them and appeared to tell them that they had to move and pointed to the student section which they proceeded to do. It's not that 102 was particularly crowded, but, apparently they're focused on making sure the student section is full.

Also saw a couple of photographers with "Athletic Dept" on their shirts taking lots of photos of the student section.

Clearly there seems to be an emphasis on student engagement at the games and getting them in one place.
