If I were to pick any one returning player on our roster who English is going to mentor, I would put my money on Hartwell. Coach was an undersized guard himself in college who knows what it's like to struggle with consistency, and I think he sees a lot of upside in Jamal's game. No, I'm not comparing their respective talent levels, but I do think he sees the upside in Hartwell's game and values his experience.

And despite his shortcomings on defense, it wouldn't shock me to see Jamal get some spot duty at the 2 when Polite, Johnson or Gray are running the point. This team lacks great perimeter shooters — especially with Kolek and Miller departing — so my hunch is that English will do all he can to use Jamal as a possible weapon in that regard.

With that said, cue the Hartwell bashing in 3... 2... 1...
Not going to bash Hartwell. Going to question everything you just said though, based on you calling English an undersized guard in college.

He *played with* an undersized guard in college.

That's my bad. For some reason I was thinking Kim was around 6-3, and even that would be a bad comparison given Hartwell's height. I do stand by the hunch that he is looking to take Jamal under his wing. I think he sees a good shooter in Hartwell, who just needs to work on his fundamentals and have more plays run to free him up for open looks.

I was going to say Hartwell is up to my nipples height wise and I am up to KE’s height wise

CKE's height and nipples aside, his college stats are interesting. Hadn't thought to look them up before.

Big drop in scoring from his Sophomore (14 PPG) to Junior year (10 PPG). Still played in every game, started the same number of them, and minutes were similar, but his overall number of FG attempts dropped by nearly a third.

I guess Frank Haith must have run a slower paced system.

He talked about this in one of his interviews and said he was too focused on what NBA scouts were in the arena and other things he could not control. Said he had to refocus on what he could control and what he could do every day to get better as a basketball player.

Yeah, I can see that. But I still have to think the style of play must've played a major role too.

From Soph to Junior year he went from 398 FG attempts to 289 over the course of the season, with the same number of games both years. Unless there were nightly NBA scouts at Mizzou games

Even his Senior year he still had fewer attempts per game on average (9.4) than he did his Soph year (11.7). His scoring average was still higher though because his scoring % went way up - 52% overall and 46% from the arc. CKE has some range!
