What if he didn't actually go to school in Gabon and take the necessary credits that are required? Is that really fair when some other recruit could have been here that actually followed the rules? You don't know.

Exactly. Some on here are acting like he was just a phone call away from being eligible and the NCAA was just dragging their feet. Obviously at this point we know that cannot be the case.

So Mayimba's transcripts aren't as clean as the NCAA would like them to be so he can't play. Meanwhile at Vandy, UT and Florida State, their ADs are covering up rapes. Glad the NCAA is going after the important stuff.

I never implied that the NCAA is out to get Mason. Rather, I assume that the NCAA considers Mayimba's Gabon high school transcript to be inadequate in supporting core course requirement(s) such as 9th grade English.

My point is that Mayimba has successfully completed 3 years of high school in the US and 1 year at Mason. Rather than reject his application of eligibility again, the NCAA should be working with Mason in finding an acceptable solution to allow Mayimba to pursue his dream of a college education as a D-I student-athlete.

Saying anything more about the issue is speculation for sure. The one sure thing is things don't add up and we don't have and probably will never have all the information to make an informed opinion on the matter. I would have to start my posts with Maybe...maybe this or maybe that and while thats fun after a game and all its not fun here. If he succeeded in a year of higher education, he should be free to play. If he is not smart at all and is given special athlete dispensation all this time from high school until now then its on the schools. My personal opinion is the kid is pretty smart and responsible and loyal too. My personal opinion is there is some dimwit in in NCAA office that is the nephew of someone higher up and is just pulling a file and really doesn't know what the situation is. Theres the guy whose transcripts should be checked. There is a better chance they guy sitting in the NCAA office cheated to get through school than whatever Mayimba issues are. Its just life, I guess. The NCAA says no, deal with it. Instead of helping college basketball, they a mucking it up. As someone else here said, the blue bloods get the red carpet, the others get the shaft. Mason got the shaft. Of course, cinderella teams never get the nod when it comes to stuff like this. Thats why they're cinderellas. You have to overcome to get to the dance, and how much will this team overcome to get there? Unfortunately, Mayimba had no fairy godmother, this is reality. Hopefully he will be able to continue his studies at Mason, and overcome himself.

If he was only missing an English credit, then he should have been a partial qualifier, and taking a year of English at Mason should have solved the problem. The fact that he is still considered ineligible implies a more serious eligibility problem (real or contrived).

I think it's more likely that had this occurred at a UNC or UK, the NCAA would have ruled faster rather then dragging it out as long as they have.

NCAA is very good at dragging their feet if you aren't one of the favored "blue blood" programs. Miami's Nevin Shapiro case stayed in the investigative phase for over 3 years.
