Atleast Kansas is communicating about the issue. Mason has said zippy. Mason cleared Therance to attend classes, so they should at the least address that.

Should ... but won't.

Communications is the weakest link at Mason by a country mile. Makes me proud to say that was my major. :bagoverhead:

I've been way too busy to read this thread. Any update on when Therence will be suiting up for us this season. I'm assuming it's just a formality, right?

...and when there is an announcement? what then?

Then it will be the first announcement. Hopefully it's transparent and clearly details why this kid can't play and or when and where he could play in the future etc.

You do realize they are probably legally only allowed to say so much. And I doubt they can speculate on when or where he could play. He can't play at Mason and quite honestly, that's all Mason should be concerned about.

If he decides to stay at Mason to pursue his education, I hope Mason pays for it. If he decides to go elsewhere, that's on him and Mason really shouldn't comment on where he may or may not play. Why would Mason comment on where the kid could play in the future if it wont be at Mason?

Maybe not where, but that he could play again somewhere. OR a sign that mason/ncaa didnt obliterate his dreams.

If they can report Curtis Mcants pulled a knife on fellow students they can tell us Therance took an English class at his aunts house in Gabon and ncaa ruled he cant qualify as a college player, ever etc. My big picture problem.... unc and others are within the rules in allowing their ball players to, amongst other things, register for 2nd semester classes that are never attended by those going to the nba. UK's 'one and done's' have never attended a second semester class. But the ncaa wont talk about that.

GS, there are many who share your frustration, but you have to know that the difference between McCants' and Mayimba's situations really isn't very subtle.

Threatening someone with a knife is a crime, and the university is legally permitted to release details about on-campus crimes.

Academic issues are covered under privacy laws -- and thankfully so. I don't want anyone to be able to dig into my record and find out how poorly I performed in the classroom. I doubt I'm alone in that regard.

And frankly, I couldn't care less whether North Carolina or Kentucky or Little Sisters of the Poor and Blind Tech are cheating.

As Mason fans/alumni, shouldn't we be most interested in finding out exactly how Mayimba got through Mason's admissions office, only to then be declared ineligible by the NCAA not once but twice?

As a proud alumnus, I'd like somebody to be held accountable. As a reporter, there are about 50 questions I'd love to be able to ask.

Unfortunately, nobody in the press is paying any attention to what's going on at our little school in the woods.

Jim,
I agree that are many questions that should be answered regarding Therances' journey thru Mason. I just think Mason should be the one shedding some light on this situation. Why is Kansas talking about their situation with their african recruit? Otherwise, as an Alum, I'm wondering if our school is incompetent in its admissions process and handling of special situations. Furthermore, if they fought for Therance, that should be illustrated as well. Let the community know you stood up for the student you granted admission too. In other words, show me you had some balls and tried to stick them in the ncaa's mouth.

If the university doesn't talk about anything else regarding this situation, somebody needs to step up and spell out what happened with the admissions process.

Well, at least they would at most places because the press and/or well-connected donors/alumni would be demanding information and accountability.

At Mason, sadly, communication is optional.

Why is Kansas talking about their situation with their african recruit?

Can we get over the fact that we don't have the coverage and demand for information as much as a place like Kansas does and move on?

You could poll our season ticket holders and students and you get 95% saying "Who is Mayimba?"

So is he leaving the team?
Is sitting out this year guarantee him eligibility next year?
sorry if I've missed all the next steps here

Leaving makes it sound like it was his choice (it wasn't...Mason lost the appeal to the NCAA)

doesn't seem like the NCAA will allow him to be eligible this year, next year, ever?
