Providence was expected to be in the NCAA Tournament mix this season, but began Big East play 2-9.David Butler II / Imagn Images

"Kim English, Providence (11-15, 4-11 Big East)

English’s standout first season replacing Cooley — when the Friars went 21-14 and produced Big East Player of the Year Devin Carter — earned a contract extension that runs through the 2029-30 season. But Providence still wound up on the wrong end of the NCAA Tournament bubble that season, and things have been rough in Rhode Island ever since. English is 23-33 in the past two seasons, with the Friars near the bottom of a down Big East.

His buyout is believed to be in the $9 million-$11 million range. With program morale low, it’s difficult to envision English reversing Providence’s trajectory enough to earn a fourth season, even if that means the Friars lose standout freshman guards Jamier Jones and Stefan Vaaks.

Temperature check: Hot"
Some of you mau have seen that St. John's center, Zuby, in a postgame interview explained that he and his teammates went into the game with the right "mindset." Hahaha! He's trolling English!

No matter how we all feel about Coach English, this should be tough to watch:

sad, just sad
too much, too fast for him

both he and Providence rolled the dice, and both crapped out

he maybe could have avoided this with a senior asst coach on the bench to help, advise and coach,
or the person he hired to be that failed in that role

no tears for him as he will walk away with a couple $M dollars,
and the ability to define his future, as he and his family should be set for life

It will be interesting to see what his next move is. I am sure he would like to be an assistant in the NBA, but I don't see him being a desirable hire at this point. Does he go back to being an assistant? Truth is, recruiting has changed from when he was a highly regarded assistant due to his recruiting chops. Recruiting is all about the payroll now, not the connections, which KE did excel at.

I wish him well.

What a freaking clown, his personality is such a turnoff and complete opposite of how anyone should be in life.

Senior night does mean something! It means something to that kid and their families you jerk. For a lot of kids and families.... being in that moment (an athlete/and maybe a first time college athlete in their family, a healthy successful career and hopefully a college degree, or 2) means a lot to that individual and family. Also allows that school to celebrate that kid with recognition, even if he is a rent a player. A kids tenure shouldn't mean jackshit, that person is repping your school and community.... give the kid his due.

Who are you to try and badmouth senior night... get the f outta here.

Nope.... nope...no sympathies at all for him. This guy should be far away from coaching anyone - kids or NBA players.

"Providence men’s basketball coach Kim English will not return next season after three seasons at the helm, according to multiple reports. College basketball reporter Adam Zagoria was the first to report the news on Wednesday night.

English’s three seasons at Providence were mired in mediocrity. The 37-year-old had big shoes to fill, taking over for longtime Friars coach Ed Cooley, who left for conference foe Georgetown after the 2022–23 season. After a 21–14 first season in ‘23–24, the Friars went 12–20 a year ago and sit at 14–16 with one regular season game remaining in Big East play. Barring a miraculous run in the Big East tournament, English’s Friars will miss the NCAA tournament once again, as they have each of his first two seasons.

English landed the job at Providence after a 20–13 record as George Mason’s coach in the ‘22–23 season. When he took the position with the Friars, he was regarded as the next up-and-coming star in the coaching profession. English is not yet 40, so that may still be the case, but he will need a fresh start elsewhere.

Through 30 regular season games this season, English is 47–50 in nearly three full seasons at the helm for the Friars, including 20–36 in Big East play. Overall, English is 81–79 overall in nearly five full seasons as a Division I coach."

but Senior Day is important

College Graduation is important whether or not you are a college basketball player,
but especially if you are an athlete as very few of them will get NBA nor NFL money

This graph is part of the gamble that is now part of the free transfer and NIL environment.
I am not sure how many guys graduate. How can you when you go to 3-4 colleges in 5 years? These guys stay at a place for 8 months and move on. Very few connections to anywhere they play.
