Figure I'll weigh in with my two cents on this:

I think the ticket price increase is tricky. We don't even fill half of our arena so it's hard to show demand being high, but premium seats seem to have a waitlist, so if they can get more out of it good for them. Mix in DOGE and other federal funding uncertainty in NOVA and it's probably not an ideal time to ask people to dig deeper.

The increases in required seat donations I'm less supportive of for two primary reasons. First, contributions required for a seat assignment are not tax deductible. So a general contribution to the Patriot Club can be deducted, but these required ones cannot. Second, last year the Patriot Club somewhat arbitrarily decided that Green Coat Society contributions had to be in addition to required seat contributions, meaning most of those folks sitting in the premium seats are kicking in $5k more per year beyond the now higher seat contributions. This is just digging deeper into the existing donor well versus bringing in new money.

I get why they are doing this, and I'll still renew, but my total giving will remain where it has been, which means Giving Day, First Pitch Dinner and the golf tournament are the likely casualties.

Was doing some late spring cleaning today and found this shirt from the dark times, helps keep in context how far the AD and program has come in such a short time.

I’m pretty sure that shirt is based on the Mason AD member calling, was it Brian?, a so-called “fan” on Twitter.

I’m also pretty sure her job was community engagement too, right?!
After we lost to Norfolk state and most of us had our pitchforks out at Paulsen, Holman said something on twitter about being upset that we lost. Dawn Hicks who worked for Darrell Green, then told him to calm down, its a long season, and we could still make the A10 tournament. She then said something about “fans”, to which swimmom agreed.

Many of us quickly jumped and sniped back at her.

I do not understand why there is a patriot club requirement when there is little demand for tickets. That's a way to get people to donate to get pick of a limited supply, but when tickets are often sold below face to get some promotion there's no reason to over pay.

Club exists for true/loyal fans/alumni who wish to support the university and the men's BBall team to the fullest

Price increases on any product is challenging for us consumers.

I submitted my deposit and plan to stay in the Gold Room. However, I have friends that similar to those on the Boards are wavering. I get it and am not thrilled.

My thoughts on why I continued my commitment.

-1- I love Mason Basketball (hell I paid to watch our worst years under Paulsen and Hewitt)
-2- I love our Coach. We had to pay him more. That figures into price changes somewhere.
-3- Players are now paid. That also figures into price changes somewhere.

I am disappointed the priority point system is being scrapped. I expected being a 20 year season ticket holder with the majority being in the Patriot Club carried the weight that was advertised each year. Back in the CAA days and the few NCAA tournaments those points mattered. They need to grandfather the diehards imo.

Go Mason!
