Posting after the upset of Cornell which is just embarrassing. We need a reality check and fact check:

1. We have 0 outside threat outside of Holloway who will get checked whenever he gets the ball on the outside. He gets pushed around by players whenever he drives the lane and he can't score when that happens. Other than Holloway we have NO outside presence. Pathetic.

2. Copes sucks. His "slim" down physique doesn't mean shit. He still can't defend a post player nor make a shot around the hoop. Pathetic. Ship has sailed.

3. Moore is still too timid to drive the lane or shoot a 10 footer. Our point guard needs to get everyone involved.

4. Royal - WTF. Why are you jacking up 5+ 3 pointers when you are suppose to "bang" down low!!!???? Nothing impresses me of him.

5. Thompson - Make a freaking lay-up!

6. Jalen Jenkins - You need to realize you are the best player on the court and dominate people. Yes, you are a sophomore but we need you more than ever! Get an attitude and realize this is YOUR house!

7. Final rant - We lost big to Cornell on our home court. In our house. Unacceptable. Freaking embarrassing!

8. Bill Courtney and his team came and ate at Brions after the game..... where was our team!!?? Being a bunch of bitches at McDonalds. Get them some kids meals and get em out of here.

Unreal

... I was so disgusted I could only look at the board at some ungodly hour...honestly thought it would have blown up from the collective disappointment.

That was Bill Courtneys F U, ya shoulda hired me game. His program stomped us on the court, then took over the post game hangout spot. Man left his mark.

The boards have been pretty much "blown up" since the middle of last year. I guess some might have had delusions of improvement this year (if you hadn't paid attention the last 3 years) with the new additions to the roster.

But, I think most knew it was going to be really bad this year. How could it not be with the same coach and losing so much of our offense from last year.

So, I think it is pretty much acceptance that we have to wait out the "lost season". Sad, since it was so foreseeable and we could have been looking at the start of a rebuilding season instead of a lame duck season.

9. Did anyone here really think Vaughn Gray was going to be a difference maker?

10. Last night was a waste of a pretty good crowd. Attendance, especially student attendance will suffer. Pretty sad.

Oh I've been here for awhile, and I know most of us are disappointed, but a seasoning opening loss to Cornell at HOME I thought would have topped it all. Usually a new season brings with it a sense of "new beginnings." Guess not.

Sorry, wasn't implying you weren't. Was just pointing out that most had already lost it and feared the worst. The fact that gumtom/raider (whichever name he is posting under today) has finally admitted defeat could be your sign that it has blown up over the Cornell loss.

I can't stand Hewitt as much as the next guy, but I'm not convinced Courtney is that much better at this point. If we look at anyone from the old regime, it should be Cherry or Caputo.

Speaking of Cherry...what a hell of a game to kick off the season. *4* overtimes to beat CSU-Bakersfield 100-99!

Box Score is nuts...dudes playing 52 minutes, 53 minutes a bunch over 40+ minutes. And High Point won without their best player John Brown suiting up. Nice start for Cherry.

Wasn't sure which of the dozen threads to post in, but as someone who has been an optimist and felt good going into Friday after an impressive offensive performance in the exhibition game thought I'd contribute my thoughts after two games.

We are a bad team. We hustle and rebound and individual efforts are generally there, but we are a horrendous offensive team. We had a decent first half today, very good defensively and ok offensively, but then we returned to our painful to watch offense and confused when to switch/when not to switch defense in the second. Friday was a top to bottom embarrassment. I could make the case it was one of the biggest games of the Hewitt era. Packed student section wanting a reason to come back in a make or break year and laid a complete egg. Just like all of our homecoming losses, this team has not had a "big crowd" home win since the Sherrod buzzer better against vcu.

I hoped that Sherrod and Brion were the cause of the stagnant offense, and still to some degree do, but I've seen little to convince me that this team is going to be able to consistently score against good teams and while we will hold our own in the paint defensively, we are always one draw and kick away from giving up a wide-open three on defense.

I think we reach double-digit wins for the season and probably even avoid 20 losses, but our ceiling is signicantly lower than I hoped it might be Friday afternoon. Disappointing and if I'm right, I agree that it might be time for a reassesment.

Jenkins needs to mature very fast and realize he needs to score 15-20 points each game for us to even be in the talk of beating any team.

I think we can all see Jenkins and Holloway being our top 2 scorers this year.

However, where does the rest of the points come from?

Actually, I think Jalen is already trying too hard. He was seriously forcing things today and had a pretty lousy game as a result.

He needs to play under control and stay within his strengths.

That said, I can see how he feels pressure to do more because we're so offensively challenged ... both in personnel and tactics.

Vaughn Gray when his shots are on target or Julian Royal. Julian Royal needs to shake off that rust as soon as possible. The other PF/C on this team are raw. Scoring only in the 60s is not enough to beat tougher teams.

I appreciate your honest evaluation of the team. What do you mean by "reassessment"? I don't want to put words in your mouth, as you seem to have been one of the last Hewitt holdouts (with the falling of gumtom/Raider after Friday's game), one who seemed to think it was more the players than the coaching, you seem to be saying that you now believe Hewitt is the problem. Is that a reasonably accurate interpretation?

One big positive for me is that the A10 network stream works surprisingly well. I don't know what feed i was getting last year, but this year it is amazing. And Lamar Butler commentary? Fantastic.

For the team- there is a lot of talent.Probably the most I've seen for Mason. There isn't any player that comes in who looks out of place like an AO or Ike Tate (his 1st 2 years). Our new bigs are AWESOME and I see amazing potential. Moore is also looking pretty good as far as commanding the ball and having some very nice drives when we really needed a bucket.

Like many have said, the lack of an outside game is painfully obvious- so we need some people to step up and consistently hit some three's. Who knows, maybe Trey Porter will become like the St. Louis big man who hits multiple game winning 3's from the top of the arc.

For the coaching- for those praising L for the miami win, i just saw the highlights and i think the praise belongs to the player. There was no play to get the shot off. It was a one on one launched 3 ball that went in...sooo not sure what people saw there. That is just NBA caliber talent for ya. What WE need is more consistent and fluid movement. I hate this "stack" play that they've been running and the spacing on the floor has been pretty terrible. We need constant movement and quick/smart shots. All i can do is hope

Even *if* the Miami player only scored because he has NBA talent, he's playing a team in Florida stacked with NBA talent, so it's a wash. Also, he needs to be put in that situation to be successful in the first place.
