GIVING DAY 2023
I echo what most everyone else said. It's just sad that you know our guys expect to lose at the end of games and vcu being a well coached team, expects to find a way to win. Our guys gave great effort, just too many dumb plays and one of the worst offensive second halves imaginable in such a big game.

Thompson limped off the court at the end of the game, though it may have been his pride hurting. Also, Marquise was clearly not right. He did very little to help us last night.

To me this was Hewitt's last chance at saving his job. Just not sure why we delay the inevitable. Let's see if his absence would be addition by subtraction.

Hey, there were lots of positives last night. I liked how we put some pressure on them full court most of the night. The focus and intensity was there most of the night. The guards played about as well as we can expect them to play.
But as Jim said, minus Weber and Graham this was a team of freshmen and sophomores. Not that we lost, as usual, more that we lost by 12, ran a stupid offense, and let vcu dictate everything to us in the second half.
Pathetic.

Just watched the post game press conference. What horrible body language.
Yep. They just look like they are beaten men. They lost to a top 20 team in a game where they played well for 3/4 of the game. I think they know they just aren't "winners" right now. Confidence is everything and if you don't have it, it is hard to win.

I would agree, in fact I thought Hewitt appeared to be in a state of denial. Looked disinterested, playing with the stat sheet as always. The inflection in this voice was horrible. He just can't get these kids to perform. Quite frankly you wonder why he continues. I think he is resided to the fact that he is a lame duck. Just going through the motions. I also think he knew last night was probably his last chance to impress B. Edwards.

In any event there is a time to change and not just for the sake of changing. And folks it's time to change. Why not hand the keys over to one of the coaches. So we lose more games? what are we doing now!

Lot of folks on this board concerned about whether a coaching change will effect current recruits. I think we should look a little further out and ask ourselves (and hopefully the admin does too) what keeping Hewitt will do for the program near and long term. Certainly don't want to give the impression that Mason celebrates mediocrity.

This is the only reason I stopped contributing. The message between the lines, at least for me, was hey who cares, athletics is just a side door through which one can view magical events once a century. I think there are other organizations more worthy of a donation for the time being.

I once bled green and gold but the last few years the sting has slowly subsided. Give me another two years and i will have forgotten completely. I think it must be easier to keep a fan base than to rebuild from scratch.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the lineup Hewitt went with in the first half that had Moore and Edwards on the bench at the same time, meaning the only ball-handler on the court was a walk-on. I get using Tate to spell one of the two, but at no point should they both have been on the bench together. Stupid.

I'm also as frustrated as everybody about not getting the ball to Thompson, but it's more of a concern that they haven't taught him to hold the ball high to protect it. How many times have we seen him get tied up by guys nine inches shorter than him?

I used to coach the 12 year olds, and I constantly preached to keep the ball high and go straight up. I guess our coaches haven't gotten to that chapter yet in Coaching for Dummies.

Been saying this for 2 years. We need to look more long term. If we can keep certain recruits/players then fine. If not, that's just the way goes. We looked too much at the short term last time in hiring a coach and look where it got us.

Hewitt prefers reading "Coaching for F*cking Idiots."

Of course, he also wrote it.

If Hewitt were a jerk or an idiot, it would be much easier for me to call for the termination of his contract on this board. He's a good man who has emphasized academics and personal development for his players, and certainly is not an idiot. But, for whatever reason(s), he's failing as a coach here and there appears to be little chance that he will turn things around.

Pablo, in my experience, being a "good man" does not necessarily preclude someone from simultaneously being an idiot.

I guess I could have written that Hewitt prefers reading "Coaching for Good Men Who Have No Clue How to Produce Winning Basketball Teams."

Six and one-half dozen in my book.

Great, then he can go ahead and apply for the academic advisor position and get paid accordingly.

I'm a great guy too. I'm handsome, ladies love me, guys want to be me. I light up the room wherever I go. An old man who doctors gave 24 hours to live, held on for two more weeks just so I could visit him so my face would be the last thing he sees when passes into the afterlife.

But none of that means jack sh!t if I can't get a bunch of college kids to play basic team basketball.

Perhaps you've seen the thread that I started: "Countdown to the End of the Coach Hewitt Era". I believe that I've made my position clear in this matter. However, I see no reason to demean the man. He's made some positive contributions to the program but he's not winning, which was the primary reason for hiring him. And, I believe that the players should also be held accountable, but evidently few people on this board agree with me.
