For those that were at the game.....how about that terribly annoying buzz from that god awful hanging speaker set. All game long it buzzed like a giant bumble bee. If I'm Edwards I'm pissed and embarassed by our basketball facility. Also of note, as we started blowing the lead in the second half Edwards was noticeably nervous/upset, it was all over his body language. Maybe he knows its time for change?

Good to hear what Edwards looked like, but when will get some actual responses to emails? Anyone get any?

What is the overall impression you all have on Julian Royal after two games? When it was annouced that he decided to transfer to George Mason back in spring of 2013 there was a ton of excitement. I thought this guy was going to dominate and score 15-18+ points every game since this guy was a 4 star recruit that was highly sought after by plenty of schools.

Is it safe to say this guy is probably overrated or is he still a bit rusty after two years not playing D1?

I think hes a bit rusty. I have seen that he has a nice jump shot, and he definitely will help with rebounding up front. Hes shown off some decent post moves as well in my opinion. I hope he will get better as the season progresses (and I think he will).

Certainly he appears athletic enough and probably has some upside. But he certainly isn't dominant like some may have hoped--at least not yet.

Jenkins had a tough game although, like always , he goes hard to the hoop. Had a few nice assists on a day when we only had 4 total. In fact, in light of that stat, how did we manage to win?! Is it a symptom of a lot of 1-on-1 basketball?

It's a symptom of a flawed offensive philosophy that does not emphasize creating shots for others.

When we're going good, it's when 2 or 3 guys are consistently beating their man and scoring.

But unlike Princeton, which relies on beating the first defender, then swinging the ball from man t0 man until they find a slow rotation, we hardly ever move the ball to create wide-open shots.

We did at least throw the ball into the post some today, although Thompson missed about 6 shots from within 5 feet of the basket. If he learns to use the glass, he could be a double-double machine because he's a freaking large human and an aggressive rebounder.

I know it is only two games, but we are not good offensively.

I agree about Thompson. He certainly is a presence underneath, especially defensively. On offense he is not strong with the ball (for example the way Jenkins is)--I'm unsure if he needs upper body work or simply a better pair of hands. Porter has this same issue in terms of hanging on to the ball in traffic. And with as thin as he is (weighs the same as Moore), he's likely to continue to get knocked around underneath until he goes through the same regimen that Jenkins apparently did in his red-shirt year. I'm guessing with Copes sidelined (anyone know for how long?), that red-shirting Porter is now less likely.

Thompson's foul with just 2+ seconds left with a 4 pt lead on the far end of the court was a real bone-headed move. I'm thinking that the coach should have pulled everyone off the lane on the second foul shot to prevent that sort of mistake. Hopefully more experience for Thompson (isn't he relatively new to basketball?) will make him more savvy about such things.

In regards to Royal, I think its both rust and over hype. He does seem like a smart player and I expect him to get better as the season rolls on but I don't think he will ever be a big time player here.

I sent one that basically said:

If the fact that just about every Mason fan was secretly rooting for Cornell and Bill Courtney to win doesn't help you understand and make the decision you need to make on our current coach, then I fear for the future of Mason athletics.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall of Edwards' office when he reads that one.
