I thought Mason was the better team all night. They got their shots, good looks too, and up until the last couple of minutes they were taking care of the ball.

Winthrop obviously scored their share, but most of their shots looked contested.

And let’s not forget Mason was down two starters and Winthrop won around 23 games last year.

This game was a long offensive slugfest with the outcome decided in the last 2-3 minutes. The bad: Mason 3 PT defense ,14 turnovers and very poor close out defense. The good: Kory Mincy is a stud on O, best mason 3 PT shooter I have seen in a while, rebounding 2 to1 ratio, solid bench play and finally Kanga is a beast when he is in there 10 boards, 2 blocks , and 3 pts in 12 minutes. More importantly he is a presence on defense. This game will give Tony a lot of things to look at and correct but I love this teams grit and determination.

Broken foot for BOC sucks, he was poised for a big year and didn’t even make it through the first game. Now just hoping to be healthy by January.

At the same time, his absence (and that of Hill) has given Long and Presley an opportunity to play extended minutes and they’re both making the most of it. Anyone who says they had Long scoring 22 points in any game this season is a damn liar lol. He’s been a revelation.

Turns out this staff really recruited the hell out of the backcourt last offseason. The depth is paying off now and if we can ever get to full strength, we’re gonna be a major problem for the A-10 with Mincy, BOC, Long, Troutman, Hill and Presley coming at opponents in waves.

Also being able to put up 96 points is pretty absurd without two guys who started the first game and a third who many had penciled in as a starter before he got hurt.

This is how far Tony has brought the program from a talent perspective. Take three of the top 6-7 players off any Mason team over the past 15 years and it’s basically a guaranteed blowout L.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe what an incredible coach he has turned out to be, and he’s just getting started.

I was at game and watched replay, our D.was below average at best, Tony is a defensive guy and will get it fixed but this game not good.

Retweet.

And not going to read into the defense too much considering the guys who were out, you could see the team was a little gassed at times. Missed FTs etc but the fight never wavered. Also, I don’t think Long has ever played 35+ min in a game…impressive effort and production from him this early in the season.

Mincy is a stud, no fear and great shot. Some work and development ongoing in the post, but we have a chance to be really good again if we can get healthy and really utilize our depth.

Negative note: only 2,933 showed up. Ugh.

BOC went from “game time decision” to “broken foot, had surgery yesterday” awfully quick.
Game time decision was just someone putting up a best guess. I sincerely doubt they got that information from someone at Mason.

As far as O'Connor, I have heard 8-10 weeks, so pending on how rehab goes, maybe we will see him in January. If recovery doesn't go well, perhaps he sits for the year. We'll see.

Super impressed with Mincy and Long and how we pulled out the game last night. Have to imagine that is the highest output offensively we've had under Tony. Needless to say we dont' give 90 points up either, but thats the type of game it was. Presley is also a really nice supplemental piece and playing a nice role for Mason.

These are warmup games and they are trying to figure things out. Going forward they have 3 games to really get things right to our standard on both sides of the ball especially defensively. Each game matters, but its good to see we can win a track meet, and not just a grinder.

I feel as though we had a little less students compared to Monday, but the ones that were there seemed louder and more into it than Monday (which comes with a close game). Still going to work on getting students more rowdy during the games. Hoping we have a game where both students and fans come in droves.

This was a great, GREAT win ladies and gentlemen. I know it was just a Big South school expected to finish middle of the pack, but ....

BCTSE (Before the Coach Tony Skinn Era), we lose this game every time! We were down 2 or 3 starters depending on how you count. We made 14 turnovers to their 6. They made 13 3-pointers. We were winning early but Winthrop hung in there and took the lead before half. They held it for a bit, we came back, they retook the lead ... and we came back and took control at the end to win. We don't do that BCTSE.

We had composure/no panic, court awareness, and solid ball handling when it was absolutely needed. Winthrop even lost their composure near the end. Beautiful! This team is different, a team we've been longing for. This was a great win.

Although the attendence tally from this game was a hair below 3k, the atmosphere seemed electric at times. Student were definitely better engaged. The DJ and crew helped rev up the students. Plus, a game like this will likely get those students to come back for more. Baby steps, folks... baby steps
