I thought Mason was the better team all night. They got their shots, good looks too, and up until the last couple of minutes they were taking care of the ball.

Winthrop obviously scored their share, but most of their shots looked contested.

And let’s not forget Mason was down two starters and Winthrop won around 23 games last year.

This game was a long offensive slugfest with the outcome decided in the last 2-3 minutes. The bad: Mason 3 PT defense ,14 turnovers and very poor close out defense. The good: Kory Mincy is a stud on O, best mason 3 PT shooter I have seen in a while, rebounding 2 to1 ratio, solid bench play and finally Kanga is a beast when he is in there 10 boards, 2 blocks , and 3 pts in 12 minutes. More importantly he is a presence on defense. This game will give Tony a lot of things to look at and correct but I love this teams grit and determination.

Broken foot for BOC sucks, he was poised for a big year and didn’t even make it through the first game. Now just hoping to be healthy by January.

At the same time, his absence (and that of Hill) has given Long and Presley an opportunity to play extended minutes and they’re both making the most of it. Anyone who says they had Long scoring 22 points in any game this season is a damn liar lol. He’s been a revelation.

Turns out this staff really recruited the hell out of the backcourt last offseason. The depth is paying off now and if we can ever get to full strength, we’re gonna be a major problem for the A-10 with Mincy, BOC, Long, Troutman, Hill and Presley coming at opponents in waves.

Also being able to put up 96 points is pretty absurd without two guys who started the first game and a third who many had penciled in as a starter before he got hurt.

This is how far Tony has brought the program from a talent perspective. Take three of the top 6-7 players off any Mason team over the past 15 years and it’s basically a guaranteed blowout L.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe what an incredible coach he has turned out to be, and he’s just getting started.
