I despise vcu as much as anyone. Probably more, actually.

But can't we wait to see if it's really just 1 game before we crush them?

Weber goes to court in September. If the case is resolved then, I could see vcu's honor council smacking him with 3-4 additional games.

If they don't, they're basically confirming what we all know anyhow: vcu puts basketball ahead of education. Duh.

Just goes to show what happens when your program is the king of the town vs a program that's a blip on the local radar....

(I kid I kid...I see its a standard program in the court....)

Doesn't change the image of a thug program located in the bowels of Richmond.

Going easy on Weber could come back to haunt the program. If the players perceive there are minimal negative consequences to bad actions, it could foster a general lack of discipline off and on the court.

UPDATE: Charges dismissed after Weber completed 50 hours of community service.

No word on any additional sanctions coming from the university.

Needless to say, their fans can't wait to cheer for the iPhone thief.

And people wonder why so many athletes have a sense of entitlement....

Based on his mantra of making the team a lot like a family I thought Shaka was a different type of coach, but wouldn't you know it, he is just like 90% of all other D-1 coaches out there, anything to get the W's.

I had much respect for how he as done it down there and spurning the bigger offers . . . now. . . meh, whatever.

Weber's just lucky he caught a break from the Richmond police because there's no way an iPhone is worth less than $200.

If he had been charged with grand larceny, Shaka would've had a much tougher time explaining away a 1-game suspension and other "team punishment."

Oh well, I'm sure Weber learned his lesson. Yeah right.

Didn't the vcu police file the incident report as the theft occurred at vcu's Cary Street Gym?

I would imagine. Not that it mattered -- no way Weber was getting charged with anything more than a misdemeanor and risk having to issue him a real punishment. The city of Richmond is corrupt in just about every way imaginable.

damn. Fairfax County gave myself and my friends each 75 hours of community service for drinking underage in our student apartment on campus.

Wish I had stolen the officer's iPhone instead.

My how times have changed. Back in the day, my RA in the student apartments facilitated that kind of activity, and I don't remember any getting busted for underage drinking. GMUTomGMU, you were there and in the thick of it, anyone get busted?

Three of our fraternity brothers had one of the Apartments and turned the common area into a club. Every Thursday starting at 430 there was music - a large bar and about 30 people in there having happy hour. Not busted once.

I don't recall any arrests for underage drinking, but they were so slack as you mentioned. I got put on probation for a semester for a keg party in my apartment, but that was slap on the wrist considering we had about 75 people in that apartment (including most of the basketball team). That same offense today would probably lead to getting kicked out of on-campus housing if not expelled.
