Best/Worst in DC radio/TV

Agreed. Bowell is a bit of homer for the Nats but he is also one of the best baseball writers in the entire country.

Tom. A bit of a homer? He has no credibility either as far as I'm concerned.

Ok, I was being kind to Tom. He's a huge Nats homer, and it does grate on my nerves as an Orioles fan. However, when he writes columns on baseball in general, I don't think there are many better.

To his credit he does write for the WASHINGTON Post, but he still pulls for the Orioles as well. As a Nats fan I really like his writing. Yeah, he's a total homer, but he does a good job of explaining certain things about the game to a city that's re-learning how to have a baseball team. An important asset, I think, to developing this young team's identity.

Wise is a NY guy. He's basically a NY version of Wilbon without the angry black man tone to his schtick. I do sound old, but I pine for the days when all of these guys weren't on TV. I actually interviewed and wrote an article on Kornheiser back when I was in high school. This was before PTI and all the TV stuff. One of the nicest most thoughtful people you would want to meet. I've heard that he's changed since the PTI show. It's a shame.....[end old fogey rant]

My favorite Mike Wise absolutely clueless thing I heard him say is how Mike Miller is a legit #2 option on an NBA contender at some point.

Does it count if he got a ring as the Heat's #7 or #8 option?

But there is literally so much stupid stuff he used to say on the radio, It used to boggle my mind.

His column after the Caps lost to the Habs (after winning the President's Trophy) was pretty good. Basically said it was time to enter "rebuilding mode."

Chris Cooley is going to be great. He just needs to dial back his excessive playbook explanations and his use of the word, "impactful." Tony is still the best in local radio. But, he is at least as much about life and culture as he is about sports.

I must admit, I'm pleasantly surprised by Cooley--figured he'd be nothing but a homer and, like many former players, only offer cliches. Still has some room for growth but has considerable potential.

I do like Tony a lot on his morning radio show. Part of his appeal for me is that he does talk about more than just sports. The others on the show--regular Ann Hornaday (Washington Post) movie reviews, etc. add much value for me. Some of his appeal for me may be generational--I'm even older than Tony, but much of his commentary and memories do resonate with me. I do remember back in the day (before PTI) his columns in the Sunday Washington Post Style section--almost as many laughs as Dave Barry.

Tom, Tom, Tom, repeat after me, I live in the Washington Metro area and my team is the Washington Nationals. The other team is the Baltimore baseball team, for people who live in or about that god-forsaken shell of a city.

I noticed that Mason alum Dianna Russini made a few people's "Worst" list on that link. I had hoped that she would be good, but I must admit that I find her to be annoying--can't quite say why.

I think some people need time to find their footing. The reality is, ESPN has poached some of DC's talent in recent years. I don't watch the local news enough to say anything. It's just a matter of time before Britt McHenry ends up in Bristol, CT.

Radio is another story. Too many DC stations have the same format. I think WASH is the closest to a true variety station, and that is what DC needs. I don't need top 40 music all the time, and in the case of 99.5, the same songs every 2 hours.

Mike Wise sucks...almost every column he writes is something negative about market area teams. Sally Jenkins is just as bad and so is Tracey Hamilton. They are ALL unreadable. Not surprising since they all admit to be fans of other NFL and MLB teams. Why are they working for the post? Glad to find other like minded haters here on this board.;)

Why would they write positively? The Nat had one good season. The Skins and Bullets suck all the time and the Cap never accomplish anything in the postseason. Again, why would they write positively? The "pros" get paid to play and when they stink they should be called out. Continuously.

I agree that local teams have not been that successful as of late. That said, I pay money for the Post and I get sick and tired of daily opening up the sports section for a sour dose of short sighted idiocy. Kind of like this board at times. Do we really need Jenkins to write a story about how great Tony Romo is during Dallas week? Seriously, where is the outrage?

OK, at 3-11 with your "franchise qb" out for the year, a lame duck coach who sucks and the entire situation turned into a circus.....what else is there to write about the Skins during Dallas week?

Personally, an article about how great Londen Fletcher is and how he is a Hall of Famer. "Local Sport
Fan" would love that despite no truth in it. What a "feel good" story. Lol

You ever wonder why every coach for the Redskins sucks? I mean Shottenheimer, Gibbs, Shanahan, Turner...

Yeah. Those guys have no idea what they are doing.

And before you say Shanahan did nothing after Elway retired, he had 6 winning seasons with only two losing season and took them to the playoffs 4 times after Elway with quarterbacks like Plummer and Griese. No Super Bowls to be sure, but how long did it take Cowher to get his after losing to Dallas?
