schedule a weekend away game at Coppin and charge $20 for a bus ride and ticket from GMU to CSU
that arena holds less than 4000
with enough interest it could effectively be a GMU home game
- and the concession food is affordable!!

should do the same with Towson State, Loyola-Marymount, Navy, Morgan State and Howard

I'm going to be kind and explain why Mason will never play a game at Coppin State and most likely never play at Morgan State, Loyola MD or Howard.

Mason is an Atlantic 10 team (considered high mid major), with mid major expectations of scheduling. The teams mentioned are MEAC or Patriot League schools that generally play buy games at mid major and above programs. These schools play the buy games for experience and to get their athletic departments money to help keep the lights on. There are always exceptions (like GW played at American), but for 95% of the time, thats how it is.

Coppin specifically plays buy games, because they have to use that money to help their program survive. In addition, Coppin is generally considered by NET and performance to be the worst team in D1 (generally anywhere from 350-365 in NET) and hasn't come anywhere close in recent years of breaking out of that area.

There isn't a chance in this landscape, how scheduling is done, that Mason is going to take a game at Coppin or any of these schools mentioned and provide a bus trip. If Tony ever scheduled a game like that I would be questioning my fan hood.

We had, I think, 9 buy games last year. Are you saying we are paying at least 75k for each? That's 675k. We played away to VATECH as the sole buy game as income. It seems like this has been the ratio last few years. Lots of home games and few road games. Duke, Marquette, Va Tech. But I doubt those paid us 6 figures.

I would love to see a 4 year balance sheet for our program.

There’s no way we turn a profit buying games like Coppin at 75k. There might be 3k people who show up to that.

Maybe under the new pricing structure these buy games finally make more financial sense, but paying Coppin 75k to take a 45 minute drive down 95 is kinda wild to me.

Crazy we are opening with Coppin State. Hard to get excited about that.

Coppin State is not the home opener but have heard they are trying to get a slightly bigger name for the home opener but still TBD on 11/1, 11/2, or 11/3. Hoping for and expecting a good season. The players had an incredibly sour taste in their mouths in losing the NIT game to a Liberty team they had no business losing to if they played even slightly better, plus the behavior of some of their fans.

Lore has it that they beat Mason somewhere back in the 70's with only four players—all but those four fouled out... and they still WON!

I heard something else but things change so maybe it is. I haven’t heard any d3 programs on the schedule but I have only really heard what’s public.
