It's the problem with X. It's not true though at least not yet.
I'd bet dollars to dimes that he is gone at the end of the season.
But i have always wondered what the value in firing a coach at mid-season or in this case 2/3rds of the season?

salary plus buyout stays the same
all but maybe 1 Assistant Coach gets fired (note that Tomlinson left at the beginning of the season)
does the team now make a run and win the Big East, or make the NCAA Tournament?

or do the donors and fan base just feel happy?

To me the biggest advantage is getting a jump on hiring the replacement - agents can start putting out feelers and you can be ready to make the hire the second the new coach's season ends.

I initially thought this was a protest in Minnesota… Nope, just a casual crowd of PC students chanting “F KE”

Those poor poor bastards in Providence... bball team sucks, not to mention living in the smallest state must make them really feel bad....Napoleon complex. Plus seems that they hate pizza since all of the pizzerias are empty.

Now all they have is snow... lots and lots of snow.

I'm not going to bash their fans other than the ones who bashed us. It sucks to suck! With that said, too bad. Make better hires! HA

It is at least good to know that a bad hire/series of bad hires can tank a big-time program too. Like Indiana, Georgetown, Providence, et al.

but that is already is occurring when the current coach is known to be fired at the end of the season - i.e. Cooley and Georgetown
Because the coaches' buyouts are so large there is no need to sue for tampering

"Kim English's tenure is likely on the verge of a third straight season without a NCAA Tournament berth. Friar fans may be drawing parallels to Keno Davis' tenure, which ended after three straight years of no postseason. Ultimately a fourth season may hinge on the buyout, which sources say is in the $8M-$10M range."

Questions
1. Does Providence have the money to buy him out?
1a. Do they have the money for a new coach?
2. Will English take the usual 50% and have job freedom?
3. Will English take the full 100% and just sit out?
4) Does the AD get fired over this?

They have millions of reasons why to get rid of him and hire another coach. This is a major basketball school, not a La Salle type school trying to scrounge for every penny to buyout a coach. Major donors, major dollars for bball.

"Providence College's men's basketball program is a major revenue driver, generating approximately
$30 million annually through ticket sales, fundraising, sponsorships, and collectives.

The team also supports the local economy with an estimated $24 million in annual impact as a Big East conference member, it is he primary financial engine for the school's athletic department, which recently achieved a record $12.7 million in total fundraising."
