Game 26: #12 ranked St. Louis, Feb 19th, 7 PM, NBCSN

What can you say, again boils down to bad teams find a way to lose and vice versa.

Easy to say guard Jett to the hoop and Loe from three on their pick and roll; much harder to actually execute.

Refs got an earful from our section tonight. Tired of us not getting calls at home. Many times we don't deserve it because we don't attack the rim, but tonight we did. Especially Sherrod who was out of his mind good, even occasionally okay on defense.

Allen really shouldn't have been in at the end when he was clearly hobbled. Hope he's okay and glad he has a week to get ready for UR.

I'm bullish on our young guys too. Moore may have an ugly shot, but he's got rock-solid nerves and already is 75% at the FT line. At his age, he can develop a shot if he can shoot FTs especially.

Speaking of rock-solid nerves, Jenkins' four FTs were about as clutch as I've ever seen a frosh.

Question is, can Hewitt develop his own players, or will the majority regress like a decent number of these guys have?

I expect the NIT at the minimum in 2015. Anything less will be a failure which might lead to us considering different options.

some thoughts:
- we gave up 12 three pointers, but I wonder how many we made while we were in zone compared to man-to-man
-our man-to-man defense is terrible. 13 layups, many were uncontested.
-when Jett was fouled at the end of regulation, not sure why the refs didn't check to see if 00.9 was the correct time on the clock. the refs had a tough game, to put it nicely
-why put J2 in with under a minute to go in OT when he hadn't played since regulation?
-why put Copes in on OFFENSE? If I'm subbing offense-defense, he is going in for defense only
-while Moore may be the point guard of our future, he clearly isn't ready. this team can't get into an offense at key times in the game. Part of that is Moore not being ready for this role, part of it is Allen not being a point guard, part of it is Edwards not being an A10 (or CAA) level guard and the biggest part is the staff's failure to manage the roster. I'm a broken record on this, but after his first year, Hewitt had to know that he didn't have a point guard on the roster; we all knew it. And yet, a full recruiting class went by without bringing one in. As inconsistent as Copes, Williams and Marko have played the past two years, I have to believe a quality point guard would mask their weaknesses.

Options need to be considered now while Jenkins, Holloway, Moore, Marko and Royal all have a chance to get acclimated to a new coach and system (provided they all stay). I think a good coach can build a solid core with those underclassman even if we lose all four of our incoming recruits.

.

Word. We should have requested it.

Heck, when the ball was tipped on the Mason inbound at the end of OT and it went from 1.1 to 0.2 seconds, I wanted Hewitt to even have them check the monitor to see if we could get a tenth or two put on.

Makes a difference in that situation. Try everything.

But as an unofficial official assistant now, I have to sometimes keep a low profile.

He was a 20 win coach his first two years. We have to give him a bounce back year. We are not Kentucky. We can't axe the guy for one bad year.

Well boys... fdghjkerdgtfhyudfghneghgfdbfd. <----- Sorry about that. I was wiping the blood from my wrists off the key board.

I just want to say props to our boys for hanging in in a game where we were supposed to get blown out. Despite the adversity of this God awful season, the keep coming back and refusing to throw in the towel. They left everything on the court tonight and for that, I praise them.

To Jordair, Loe and the officials Brent Hampton, Tim Kelly, Michael Stephens... EAT SHIT AND DIE!!!!

Tough loss, but this miserable season has killed our perspective.

Lost to the #10 team in OT with Sherrod putting up 34 points.

As my 6 year old pointed out on the ride home - that was a great game.

Before I get killed. I'm just reflecting the moment, not the season or coaching tenure.

It was a great game. It's tough to be anything but negative when we'll probably lose our next game to Richmond by 10-15, even though St. Louis is the better team.

GIVING DAY 2023
Another case of déjà vu. Despite that, I'm proud that the guys still have not given up and gave it their all. I saw a decent game plan that frustrated St Louis which was good to see considering the many games where it seems like there's lack of one. It's a shame that Jett got hot and Loe came up huge again. That is why they've won that many games. It also appeared that Mason did well in various stat categories. Still dumbfounding that they found a way to lose. The foul call at the end of regulation was crazy.

Green machine brought their A game tonight and so did the 4000 in attendance. I was glad to hear the place get loud even being only half full or so. It was a great game and I'm still very proud Mason is in the a ten.

One, in year one of Hewitt's tenure he won 24 games, yes, but with a horrible SOS and he didn't even get a sniff at the NIT.

Two, in year two, we got to 20 wins, but we had to make it all the way to a best of three CBI final to get to those 20 and that was in one of the worst years for the CAA in a long time. I mean James Madison won the CAA last year for godssake!

A good coach who has Sherrod Wright, Bryon Allen, Jalen Jenkins and Patrick Holloway on his team does not lose 20+ games in a season.

This is Mason's eighth game lost after winning at halftime, BTW.

"Making adjustments" is usually a cop-out on message boards unless you tell me specifically what some of those should have been, but there's got to be a little there with that stat.

Eight? Has to be a record and we're not even done...
