Game 21: AT St. Louis, Feb 1st, 2:30 EST/1:30 CST, NBCSN

You should blame hewitt. It's the same crap every game. If it isn't getting blown out in first 8 mins in first two years, its finding ways to lose. nd this starts with poor recruiting. Thats what you get (today) when you put a player on the floor who can't shoot. So yes, the blame falls on the coach. And it also falls on him and the players for letting Loe hit all those threes. The one when we were up 3 he was wide open. Up three and you leave a scouted three pt shooter wide the F open? Or was he scouted. Who even knows with this clown staff.

Jenkins sagged low for some reason to leave Loe open. It had nothing to do with Hewitt.

The only question with Hewitt is will Moore and Jenkins be instructed sufficiently enough to avoid making decisions like our seniors do when they're more experienced.

Read the boards and then watched the game.

The bad: g**d fuc**** dammit. Again?

The good: complete game.

Minority opinion: our kids played their heart out and can come home with some pride. No excuses for losing a winnable game, but the enigma of our season continues. Great effort in a game that every A 10 team would struggle.

I'm frankly stunned that, given this many opportunities at close games, we haven't simply lucked into winning one by now.

It almost defies the law of averages for a team to keep playing hard and continue losing in such soul-crushing fashion.

I can't remember rooting for a team at any level and experiencing so many soul-crushing losses. I hope GMU beats Dayton, but if the Patriots do win, it'll be a squeaker.

Jim, you're probably right, but I think we'd all take a squeaker at this point. I know this stretch has been tough for the team, so it would be nice to see them get rewarded with a win.

I think He will continue to positively grow Patrick, Moore and Jenkins. Either we get to the NIT or NCAA in 2015 or we need to take a hard look at his leadership.

Our guys definitely deserved to win today, maybe even more than they deserved to win the UMass game.

They completely destroyed the best team defense in the A-10 and one of the best in the nation, and almost won in regulation despite as lopsided a home whistle as we've seen all season.

It really is a credit to the players that they keep fighting game after game. Whatever Hewitt is saying to keep them from packing it in and quitting, they need to see some payoff for their efforts and soon.

Maybe Hewitt needs to start envisoning wins. Kinda like how he envisoned becoming rich with little skill.

Totaly agree. But it seems our players are being hypmotized in the last few minutes of all these games. Maybe Bobby Cremins is still in Hewitts head. Who the F knows. What I do know is, whoever promised that cab driver witch lady some dick in dayton in 2006 better go f**k her 1000 times to end this curse she has placed upon us.

I know what you mean. I watched the last 2 minutes of regulation and we got soooo many offensive rebounds that one would have thought, surely one of these will go in. Actually Copes' did make a put back to put us ahead by 3 with a minute left, but we really put ourselves in position to win this game. And on Jalen's last second miss, Copes had his hands on the ball as the buzzer was going off and might have had yet another put back.

Other than the turnovers, I couldn't have hoped for a more well-played game by our guys. No droughts, shot better than 50% against the best defensive team in the country, out-rebounded them. I certainly hope the team keeps playing with as much energy as they showed today.

I've been looking at Ken Pomeroy's data and in addition to his offensive and defensive efficiency rankings, he has a "Luck" category:

Luck - A measure of the deviation between a team’s actual winning percentage and what one would expect from its game-by-game efficiencies. It’s a Dean Oliver invention. Essentially, a team involved in a lot of close games should not win (or lose) all of them. Those that do will be viewed as lucky (or unlucky).

Going into today's game, Mason was 295th out of 351 (toward the "unlucky" end). I imagine after today's game we'll fall even further toward the unlucky end.

If there is a silver lining here, it's that we kept vcu in second place. You know their degenerate fans were rooting for us as much as we were, so it's nice that they are as disappointed as we are.

I almost am starting to believe that if/when we do get that first A10 W it'll almost be like opening the flood gates and we will reel off a string of W's. Call me delerious.:googlyeyed:

.

That's what is so amazing. People (partially) joke that Hewitt needs to get out of the way the last few minutes, but essentially that's what he did today. Left the five in that were playing best, and we led 66-61 with four minutes left.

We got one basket on a Copes tip the rest of the way. I mean, we played essentially on a scoring pace for ten points in a half the last four minutes. Just terrible.

Very happy for Copes' good game. Unfortunately with this team what also kills me is Johnny Williams will score 18 last game, two the next. Obviously Copes will give us 0 and 4 fouls next game, because George Mason. This team never fires on all cylinders at once.

Watched the highlights on gomason.com and then watched the 2nd half this morning. Anyone blaming Hewitt for the last shot is an absolute moron. Moore created dozens of opportunities for us today off the dribble - either with his baskets, finding a post player underneath, or kicking it out. This was exactly what Hewitt wanted in the last shot, but for some reason Moore pulled up for the jump shot.
