BREAKING: Baylor transfer center James Nnaji has committed to George Mason, @DraftExpress reports. Nnaji was drafted No. 31 overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Tons of props to Tony, an anchor down low is exactly what we needed. We could maybe be in A10 favorite discussions right now. I know Nnaji is very limited offensively, but he has to be a difference maker in the A-10. right??! I know his production at every level of play is near-zero, but the potential is still there, right?

This guy's journey is wild.

-Played for Barcelona 2020-2023
-Drafted 31st overall in 2023 NBA Draft
-Some Summer league play
-Barcelona some more
-Joined Baylor mid-way through the season last year. Only played a few games, Coach Drew mentioned he had conditioning issues.
-Comes to Mason

Strengths
  • Elite Physical Profile: Nnaji possesses an incredibly strong, muscular frame and exceptional length, giving him a massive catch radius for lobs and rebounds. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Defensive Versatility & Rim Protection: His fluid mobility and lateral quickness allow him to switch effectively onto smaller players on the perimeter while also providing strong shot-blocking in the paint. [1, 2, 3]
  • Screen and Roll (Pick-and-Roll) Threat: He is a willing, physical screen-setter who opens up the floor for guards and is a highly efficient, explosive lob-finisher. [1, 2, 3]
  • High Motor: He displays a high-energy, active presence on both ends of the floor, specifically crashing the offensive boards and running the floor well in transition. [1, 2, 3]

Weaknesses
  • Limited Offensive Skillset: He lacks a reliable low-post game or self-creation ability, with the vast majority of his scoring coming strictly from putbacks and dunks. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • No Shooting Range: Nnaji operates almost exclusively in the paint and has no established shooting range outside of the restricted area. [1, 2]
  • Poor Free-Throw Shooting: Historically struggling at the charity stripe, his low free-throw percentage can occasionally make him a liability in late-game situations. [1, 2]
  • Foul Prone: Because of his aggressive defensive style and occasionally raw instincts, he can be prone to getting into foul trouble. [1, 2]

Well you can't teach size and this guy is big.

Looks like he struggled at the high major level but was successful in Europe and was somehow good enough to get drafted in the NBA but never signed.

I'm skeptical hes going to be any sort of contributor other than a warm practice body. Assuming his eligibility is not a factor, hes a depth piece. And maybe he breaks out against A10 competition.

He played summer league for the Knicks and with Kolek, so obviously the Mason to Knicks pipeline is continuing, lol.

eh 8.5 points at a big12 school w. minimal prep and a big mental F U from fans and the talking heads, i think if dude shows up to work and is high effort, hes gonna help. Can't teach size and athleticism. He has high high potential in the a10
He played about 8 minutes a game - he did not score 8.5 points a game.

James Nnaji highlights here

He seems like another Gio Emejuru type of player, who played for us in Tony's second year. It looks like he will be the one guarding vcu's Lazar Djokovic when we play them this upcoming season.

Does this mean we are the favorites to win the A10 this year? This team is loaded!!

Gio build. I don’t agree with him being eligible but if he’s gonna wear a Mason uniform screw it, hope he gets to form here and pushes for starter minutes at the 5. Don’t see any downside to this, and potential that it could be sneakily one of our better signings this year.

Until He personally announces his commitment to Mason...this is just a rumor...but if he ends up committing..yeah. Mason is in the conversation.. dude was the 31st pick in the 2023 NBA draft...

Defensively.. he is already Olajuwan....

Look at how quickly he recover from hedging to block shots...

DraftExpress is reliable and it says per Nnaji’s agent so I would say it’s a done deal plus 247Sports also confirmed it
