After watching the post game presser all I can say is Tony is one class act. Our #1 priority is to keep him and support him in every way possible.
Agreed he has been everything I hoped for and more. If the admin isn’t willing to go all-in on supporting one of our own and giving him the best possible opportunity to build a championship program, it’s never gonna happen. After watching the post game presser all I can say is Tony is one class act. It’s not just the admin. The community and students need to step it up also. The environment in EBA is awful. Tony cares about putting a good product on the floor but it’s hard to attract guys. I was talking to a local recruit about Mason not long ago and he said “Mason isn’t even in my top 10, great staff but that arena and the atmosphere is worse than a high school game”. Kids care about winning and money for sure but they also care a lot about playing in front of a crowd who shows up and makes it fun. Well wasn’t the DJ booth supposed to add atmosphere or did that fade into the abyss? It’s not just the admin. The community and students need to step it up also. The environment in EBA is awful. Its definitely helped but if recruits expect 9000 people with shirts off hooting and hollering then they won't come to Mason. Our atmosphere isn't going to be great unless its an important game.Well wasn’t the DJ booth supposed to add atmosphere or did that fade into the abyss?
I think it is more so the inconsistency. The players really never know what the atmosphere (or attendance) is going to be like from game to game. I will never forget sitting next to Liz Larranaga in 2011 when we were playing Hofstra and Charles Jenkins. It was an important game in the standings and also one of the best players in the country, and hardly anyone was there/it was pretty quite. She said something to me like "Jim is going to be pissed" and "what do we need to do to get people to show up" I honestly think that had something to do with them leaving for Miami later that year. Its definitely helped but if recruits expect 9000 people with shirts off hooting and hollering then they won't come to Mason. Yeah I get that but I think players also know that bigger games are going to have bigger atmospheres.I think it is more so the inconsistency. It would be a great career move for him. Carrier Dome and ACC vs Eagle Bank and LaSalle
If he declines to interview with Cuse do we get @gmubrian back?It would be a great career move for him. Carrier Dome and ACC vs Eagle Bank and LaSalle
The opposite is also true. Cuse is searching for its next Jim Boeheim... this could be a "one job for the rest of my life" role as well.'Cuse is a "get my bag now and figure the rest out later" move. It's not smart for any potential step-up after it, but I honestly have to respect anyone taking a "never work a day again in my life" contract. But Tony knows better than anyone what a nightmare that gig could turn into.
I would think McNamara is a near-lock to be hired at his alma materThe opposite is also true. Cuse is searching for its next Jim Boeheim... this could be a "one job for the rest of my life" role as well.
That said, I hope Tony is at Mason for a long time.
That would be the obvious choice but I’m not sure that’s happening.I would think McNamara is a near-lock to be hired at his alma mater
