Welcome Bryton Barrett

I guess that I haven't followed the potential new NCAA rules that closely. I just assumed that the 5th year could only be used for those that hadn't used up their 4 seasons where they played and had gotten a red shirt season. But the 5 yr limit meant that one couldn't play a 6th year, even if they had what previously been a second injury red shirt year (a la Jalen Haynes).

You seem to be interpreting the 5 year limit as allowing a player to actually play all 5 years and not needing to apply for a red shirt,
That is how I interpret it yes- every player now gets five years and things like regular and injury redshirts are done.

Seems like a kid who can definitely develop into a contributing player given the right circumstances - has great length and basic skills and love the all-defense honor he earned for AAU. Hope he is patient and willing to work.

Looking at Bryton's highlights, he seems to possess good fundamentals, however, within his own speed limit. He has to speed it up and maintain his quality of play to make it in the A10.

A major share of freshmen his size come in overwhelmed by the speed of the college game—that happens whenever one jumps levels in sports. Freshmen of his caliber typically have to speed it up and gain mass and gain power. Eat your Wheaties, spinach, and tuna, lift weights and run-run-run those wind-sprints—WIP.
