The 2026 Transfer Portal

if we drop down our budget will too. A10 has a pretty decent media deal, and the units we get from other teams making and winning games in the tournament help out as well. If we drop down I’d expect our budget to drop 30-40% within a couple years, we couldn’t sustain this type of spending in a lesser league.
Missing the point. If the NCAA splits into "pay to play" and "not doing it" levels. The teams in the "not doing it" level won't need to spend like they do today. Since we obviously can't run with the big spending dogs, we should consider being a big dog in the lesser level. I could see us being a great "get" for the top rated league in the lesser level. Just being realistic. The posts here talking about us suddenly creating a plie if money to give the Bball program are pipe dreams.

Not sure I agree with you, but yeah, I'm not giving another dime except to the History Department.

As someone in academia who sees bigger and bigger piles of cash going to sports and more and more money leaving academic programs, thank you for actually shifting money to academics and not just disengaging.

Yes, we can argue all we want about whether sports is the front, side, or back door of a school. But bottom line, it's about the degree. I don't have a problem giving young people scholarships. They have to pull double duty to be good in their sport and the classroom. But paying them beyond that? Sorry. Not with my money.

I haven’t seen anyone seriously discussing this being a possibility at the NCAA level.

This one depresses me the most for some reason. His ability to never get sped up, make good decisions, get to the rim and not turn it over were unique. We'll replace him but he'd have been a nice piece to build around.
Really surprising he would leave Tony for a lateralish move. Must have just been too much money to say no.

With Adair, Marcus Jr., Pendergrass, Kanga and Preston-Mendy, we have 5 guys between 6'8 and 6'9. Would like to see some scoring G's commit - which I'm sure we will have soon.

I generously take your Kanga obsession with a grain of salt, mostly because I am also a fan of his upside. The main difference is you mistake upside for current talent. To suggest that Kanga could have matched Riley's offensive output in the same amount of minutes just shows how much your judgment is clouded. You don't even bother to factor in how much Riley's ability to play in the post and on the perimeter created so much space for our guards to shoot and drive the lane.

Despite Riley's obvious and well-stated defensive limitations, he was STILL named one of the top 10 players in the Atlantic 10. Think about that for a moment. In a very, very guard-oriented league, he was deemed by coaches and experts to be one of the league's premiere players. I guess they disagree with your hilarious misconception that offense is only 25% of the game of basketball.

Like you, I am excited about Kanga's potential, but stop putting so much pressure on the kid. I'll be more than happy next season if he can average 10 points and 8 boards while also playing solid defense and staying out of foul trouble. Opposing coaches won't game-plan around him like they did with Riley, but he can still be a very valuable piece to the puzzle Tony is putting together.
[/QUOTEiI'll agree to disagree, by the way if you are not convinced about offense being only a quarter part of the game read john wooden s book. I think he knew a little about basketball. BTW, I'm not putting any pressure on Kanga I'm talking to a bunch of fans of our team. Happy to have Emmanuel Back.

There was no three-point shot when John Wooden coached UCLA (1948–1975). He won all 10 of his NCAA championships in an era without a 3-point line or a shot clock.

I remember watching the ND game when Digger and the boys knocked them off. It was great!
