Another DMV kid, Creighton’s Blake Harper (by way of Howard), off the board to vcu.

That’s four now in Richmond: Ward, Lewis, Kaiser and Harper.

Embarrassing that Mason is an afterthought for players in our own back yard because we can’t afford to pay them.
y we sweating about a kid we had no interest in

If we didn’t even try to pursue him, why would he come here. Just because he’s from DMV doesn’t make him obligated
When two schools in our league and less than 100 miles from our campus are signing high-level DMV players that we’re not even competing for because we don’t have the money, that is a huge problem whether you want to admit it or not.

Why jump to the conclusion this is financially motivated (solely or partly)?

Maybe there's a stylistic or systematic thing (Tony didn't like the way they defend, for instance).

It sucks to see good players sign elsewhere, especially when they were in Green and Gold last year, but there can be reasons outside the money, including the fact we don't seem to have been interested.

All four of the guys I mentioned would’ve been welcomed at Mason in a heartbeat. But sure, we weren’t interested lol.

’m sure they would’ve been welcomed, but maybe there play styles didn’t match what Tony wanted are maybe Tony has other people he’s more convinced could be better

That's a tough assessment man. He was 1st team All A10 and won several games single handily for this team.

Honestly, based on what I noticed, this Coaching staff has its work cut finding attracting any skilled experienced d1 players who can compete at the A10 level because Mason's money issues.

They’re scheduled. All about making sure they don’t leave without committing!

How does this season's shortened portal play out? Is there only one week remaining to sign players? Or, is it that players have only one more week to declare and a signing period follows?

To be fair

We were interested in Tyrell Ward last year on an injtial list. He was more of a role player this past year.

As far as Kaiser, or Harper, not sure what happened Other than Kaiser being a package with MoJo.

Many things can be true. We should be involved with these dmv kids, these kids may not want mason, and Tony and staff may not want them.

I know I will be pissed if this all comes down to money, but Im thinking theres more to it.

Sport31 is the poster child for our delusional fan base. He not only underestimates the value Riley brought to our team but foolishly thinks his replacement is on our current roster. The idea in this NIL environment that any 5-star big man who can play both ends of the court is ever walking through our door is beyond naive. Tony hit the mid-major lottery getting Riley for one year.

I'm never going to defend Allenspach's defensive liabilities or effort, but what isn't disputable is that he was the most gifted offensive big man we have had in over a dozen years who wasn't named Haynes or Odurro. Opposing teams game-planned on how to contain him, because his unique ability to score at will in the post and knock down threes is very rare — "Top 10 player in the league" rare!

I'm a proud member of the Emmanuel Kanga Fan Club, but it's unfair to ask that kid to fill Riley's shoes on offense. His current shooting range is three feet from the basket, and many of his rebounds are from his own misses. His defensive activity and board-crashing are elite, but he will foul out by halftime if he doesn't learn to play more in control.

I'm beyond stoked that Kanga is staying at least another year, because he is going to be a very good player for us. But our best hope for getting back to the NCAAT is Tony finding another big with Riley's offensive game who can play a little defense.

Since it appears that just about every player wants to test the portal, and why not, Mason could very well be left in a very bad position. Not enough money to select A10 quality players. I hate to say this but should Mason consider dropping out of the A10? If you can't afford the right players and be competitive what is the point. CTS will be just like every other head coach. I need more money. The Portal./NIL is doomed for failure.
