Not going to pretend to know what happened, could be any number of things.

Rather than dive into what is currently a dumpster fire, he might have been presented with a different opportunity he felt fit him better right now. Maybe he decided he needed a break, or maybe it was family related.

Continuing to hate and assume the worst about the dude after 3 years is weird.

Nah, just thanking Greyhound he's gone.
But yes, as a Carolina fan, it does seem like a dumpster fire right now. It makes me sad. 56 years of fandom ingrains lots of emotions.

Disagree! Sports hatred is forever!

To this day, I still hate Pat Verbeek of the NJ Devils for cutting Rod Langway in the leg in game 1 of the Patrick Division finals in 1988.

I hate everything that has to do with Pittsburgh sports teams because of the way they beat my Cowboys in the 70's and my Capitals in the 90s-10s.

LOL, honestly, I didn't even know we played them in 2003. I don't even remember that of much of anything in 2003-2005. I was battling a major depression. Lost my job. Went on disability. ECT treatments. The works.
Very serious stuff. But I am very thankful to the good Lord that doctors, meds, etc. are available.
I hate to turn a light hearted comment into such a serious response, but it just seemed to be appropriate at the moment.

"I was admittedly concerned about English’s sudden departure and what that might mean about possible issues within the athletics department, basketball program or coaching staff. I figure a fella doesn’t take a job and then almost immediately leave without good reason.

I recently heard though that, after being let go from Providence, he had planned on staying near Washington, D.C., so he could be close to his daughters living there. Then the job offer came from UNC and, because it’s a great opportunity, he took it.

It remains a great opportunity, but apparently not one as good as being around your daughters and to that I say 'amen.' There are few bigger fans than me of all things University of North Carolina athletics, but I applaud anybody who chooses spending time with their kids over their career. Rick Moranis is my personal hero, and I’m sure Kim English would agree."

I suspect this is a big part of it. Not thinking or getting the right approvals before accepting is odd.
