Season tickets 2014-15

I received a letter today for the upcoming season. It appears some seats in terms of a mandatory donation went up. You can send $25 per seat now as a deposit for your season tickets (due date is August 10th), and the remaining balance is due in September. The per game face value is $25 and the letter says season ticket holders get at least 30% off that.

Per Paul Hewitt's letter: ". . . While last season had its challenging moments and disappointments, we have been working all spring to return our program to the level that you deserve. Julian Royal will lead an exciting group of newcomers that has been tabbed a top four recruiting class in the Atlantic 10 Conference by CBS Sports partner 247Sports. As we prepare for our second season in the A-10, we are excited to bring championship basketball to the Patriot Center. . ."

Sorry, Paul, but I just can't get excited about next season.

Sorry to hear that prices went up given the poor performance under Hewitt, especially last year. Grow a fan base by raising prices? Not sound wisdom in my opinion.

bad business model. raise donations on those who already give. how excited are we supposed to be about Julian Royal who tore up the ACC at approximately 3.5 ppg ?

The 3.5 ppg really shouldn't be much of a concern. Remember once Hewitt got kicked out, Gregory went in and got his own guys and shelved Royal. Can't really expect any player to score much of any points when they are averaging less than 5 minutes of play.

Royal going from ACC to A10 might be a good thing, he has the potential to dominate. Watched a few highlight plays, I'm sure he will score double digit points. The guy is a combo of Ryan Pearson and Jonathan Arledge.

At this point I'm just hoping ths team will finish in the .500 range.

Interesting... My letter was worded the exact same except it referenced Copes instead of Royal.

and Raising ticket prices? Wtf? What non-season ticket fair weather fan is going to pay $25 for a corner or rafter seat? I'm sure the average family would rather go to the movies at more than half the price and see a movie like Lone Survivor where everyone dies. Same depressing outcome as a Mason game .

Well I guess we can look forward to a half filled Patriot Center again this season.

THANKS FOR THE SPOILERS.

Interesting...my letter talked about Michael Rudy's GPA and how this winter's weather will probably be milder. At the bottom it just had Brad Edwards' career NFL stats.

Did it also talk about the El Niño. No weather report is complete without an El Niño reference.

I'll pay it regardless (this time) but I am not happy with this business model. Can someone in our economics department explain supply and demand to the athletic department? The cure to lowered demand is definitely not a price increase. Their primary concern right now should be to put more warm bodies into seats, even if that means cutting prices. 7,000 fans at $20 bucks is better than 5,500 fans at $25 bucks (for example).

I have been a season ticket holder since the 98-99 season but the family is at a cross roads with buying tickets this season. We need to add a seat (total of 4) and drive up for about have the games from VA Beach. With last season's performance I am not super excited about paying $17.50 a seat for 13 games to see us suck. With expanded TV viewing options for games and it being a better deal to buy per game we may be out -

I have had season tickets since the Rick Barnes era. I remember how Mason starting charging a fee per ticket after the Final Four run. I wrote a letter that went to Coach L, the AD, and a few others voicing my concern and eventually got a call back from some mid-level staffer who gave me the company line about how Mason is now "big time" basketball to explain the extra fees imposed -- just like they do at other big time schools. We had a spirited discussion about what will happen if and when the program regresses and fails to maintain a performance level anywhere near the Final Four run. Response -- more company line BS. And so what happens. Coach L leaves and we are struggling mightily. The response -- the fees are still there and now the prices go up. Eventually fans will decide, one by one, if the return is worth the investment.

Other than Washingtonian, PiKapp, Tom, Jollay, and me, who plans to purchase season tickets?

I've had season tickets going back to when they played in the old PE building--back to the days of Herb Estes, Myron Contee, Dave Skaff, Andy Bolden, Andre Gaddy, Jim Nowers, Levester Berry, John Niehoff, and of course, Carlos Yates. They used to give away coupons at the door for free Burger King Whoppers--regardless of how many points we scored!
