Passing and Ball Movement......

I watched the game again.....and I want everyone's thoughts - who are much smarter on basketball technicals than me....on what you are seeing on passing and ball movement. I like what I see now - it is crisper, smarter --- still some mistakes but it looks better.

What do you all think?

Major movement in several places. One, in my pants after this win. Second, all over the court today. We found the open man vs their zone and Man2Man. Against Mercer, we seemed lost according to posters here. To see such an improvement the very next game vs an SeC team speaks volumes. We also made shots and hit free throws. Basketball is fun to play when you do the little things right. I think thats what DP is preaching to the guys and they lived it today. In addition, we handled the press well. I am wondering where the Turnovers occured mostly. I don't think too many vs their defense. Mostly self inflicted is my guess. Clean that up and continue hitting open shots and we got ourselves a season.

What caught my eye was our ability to survive the press and zone. I think I only said WTF once.

All about creating spacing and imbalance. This team gets fundamentally better by the minute. I am thrilled for this fanbase because this is real change in my opinion. Fun for me personally to be back after the recent past.

Also, when we hit shots its harder to double Shevon. When he isn't being doubled like today, he can score. He still needs work on offense and defense. I'd like to see him go up for a few more blocks. Just get mean kinda thing.

Maybe the biggest thing, we actually have a PG that can do it all!

Agree. I think that will happen. The men have bought unit Paulsen's plan. Just nice to watch this.

I'm watching the game now, and the first TO Grayer fell to the deck right when Otis passed it to him and he caught it while lying down.

Something I noticed that I really liked on defense in the second possession, when the Ole Miss player started penetrating, Moore feigned like he was going to collapse and then ran out to cover the shooter on the perimeter -- something I've been screaming about the last four years.

The thing I like most is that we're getting a lot more done with the pass rather than relying so much on the dribble.

Craig Robinson astutely noted several times today that our guys created open shots by swinging the ball quickly from side to side and causing the defense to shift. The ball doesn't stick on any one player.

It's a very unselfish team with guys who are willing to pass up an open shot to get an even better one for a teammate. Fun to watch.

As great as Grayer and Livingston were, let's not forget how our veterans like Thompson, Marko and especially Moore played today. It's their calming influence and leadership that makes the young guys feel at ease.

Moore was aggressive in attacking the basket and finishing, but it was his defense that really stood out. And Marko, despite four turnovers, really is the glue that keeps these guys together. Whether it's a screen, a rebound, a backdoor pass or just hustling, he sets the example for all of them.

You're right Tom. We're not gonna win many games if our freshmen have to carry the team. Need the veteran guys to bring consistent effort and leadership.

And yet, somehow, Lamar Butler clings stubbornly to the notion that our problem wasn't the coach. Strange.

I haven't tuned into gobo and lamar. Does Lamar like the new coach? Or is he still sulking about the previous coach? I remember him blaming the players etc. But he failed and prob still does, to realize the players brought in by aforementioned asshole, did nothing to better the team.

I just follow Lamar on Twitter, and he disagreed with somebody yesterday who suggested that DP is changing the entire culture of our program.

Not that surprising since he defended Hewitt throughout his Reign of Error and continually blamed the players for failing to properly execute what they were being taught.

Watching our first three games under Paulsen, I'm honestly befuddled how someone as accomplished in basketball as Lamar can fail to recognize what is so obvious to everyone else.

Watching the GW vs USF that Hewitt was commintating, all Hewitt was saying with about 5 min left was how the coaches just needed a player to step up and make a play here. There was no metion of strategy or how they should attack, just this is where a player needs to step up and make a play.
