GIVING DAY 2023
Bring back:
1. Big Red
2. Tee Shirt Guy
3. Shirtless dancer
4. The chug cam - several posters here have starred in that role.
5. The 66 west - 81 south chant while rattling keys at JMU as they suffer yet another defeat at the hands of the mighty Patriots.
6. TAKE AWAY cell phones from students as they enter. Cell phones kill creativity, numb the mind, and destroy personal interaction.

I realize many here are too young to understand my references to 1, 2, 3, and 5.
Lol Tee Shirt Guy is not coming back, he retired to SC. Chug cam was like a 2 game thing, not sure where that went

#6 is you turning on your old man yelling at the cloud LOL.
Someone should email Mason Athletics to checkout this forum for ideas since I dont think they do.

Anyway, the DJ at the game yesterday was at the front row of the student section.

They did the Party in EBA thing and the Dance cam yesterday
Nobody needs to email Mason athletics to read the forum. They have staff that reads what we say already. I assure you considering some of the comments I have received via text or in person, lol.

Walk-On
Chug cam might not be a good look as I can see it coming across as promoting alcohol abuse. Do they not have a student of the game promotion where they award the loudest or most spirited student with some sort of prize? Gie them a gift card or credit them some campus dining money on to their student account.
A lot of these ideas are great and would sure work. The problem that ive seen is the budget! Sadly the budget isn't always there for some of the best ways to get students up and engaged. Things like gift cards for the loudest students, or passing out pizza, and the t shirt toss get people excited for sure

Preferred Walk-On
I liked the DJ but did the band play less?
There was a dance battle but only two students and they didn’t look like they cared to be there. There was a dribbling competition but clearly one guy tried to cheat. Halftime did not involve Mason student section. I’m glad they are trying but some group from campus is going to need to want to take over and be crazy (besides the band)

I’ve said this before but I went to a Virginia game last year and so annoyed at the MC trying to beg for interaction. Lots to do with the phones. Now I see maybe that’s the solution, include the phones they are already on. Have people send in photos from the stands to make it to the screen. Or can we play a game from our phones onto the scoreboard? I have seen that at movie theaters. There might be a money cost but engage somehow new.

Those are good ideas. If they are going to be on their phones, make it work for the game atmosphere.

Maybe 1-2 especially spirited cheerleaders can be worked more directly into the crowd as a cheer captain (or dare I say, cheer leader) that directs some organized chants/songs?

More than leading cheers, we need people that are willing to get in students faces and tell them very directly to get off their asses. Talking bout groups like the barra brava, that’s part of what they do.
