I’m so excited to welcome Baraka back to Fairfax. Now that it’s official…
I had been hearing rumblings as far back as last year that Tony had maintained a relationship with him and that there was mutual interest. At the time, I kind of laughed it off—I never really thought we’d get him back considering his talent level and how his situation seemed to be set up. But late last weekend, word started circulating that it might actually happen. When I saw it pop up on my phone, I literally said “holy shit” out loud. Even then, it didn’t feel real.
Baraka was one of Tony’s first big finds after arriving at Mason, convincing him to reclassify, and we all saw how talented he was in that first season. I expect him to be everything he was in year one—and more—now as a senior.Putting him in the backcourt with Brayden, along with Marville, gives us exactly what we need from an experienced guard group to compete in the A-10.
I still love Kory Mincy—but yeah, I also love Baraka (even if Kory had me saying “Baraka who?”). Now that he’s back, I’m all in with Baraka as PG1.
And as for spending—don’t worry. It’s being handled. There’s strong financial commitment behind the scenes, and we’re clearly investing to win. Bringing Baraka back is proof of that.
