Some of us old heads were actually at the game where George Evans posterized JMU's all-CAA guard David Fanning. Up until this point, through the 90's JMU had owned us. This dunk by Evans and the win by Mason was the announcement to the rest of the league that Mason had turned the corner under Larranaga. At least, that's the way I remember it.

Thoughts: Their starting 5 is experienced and produces almost everything in terms of points and rebounds. Their bench is young and production to date has been minimal. They are winless on the road.

I miss the old CAA Zone days and the Madison picture threads. Some real classics! I hate that our crowd does not know to take out their car keys and rattle them at the JMU team while chanting “66 west, 81 south” as the clock winds down on yet another Patriot victory.

Our best crowds, all considered sellouts, were usually for the JMU game. The 4 games below were ALL MASON wins.
9,840 on 2/28/08.
9,840 on 2/12/11.
9,702 on 2/17/01.
9,676 on 2/26/00

Ahhh, the nostalgia for days gone by. Keep the dream alive!

Discuss.
I remember playing JMU the last game of the season in 2000 for the regular season championship. Students had to get tickets ahead of time to make sure they got in, lots of scalpers outside the Patdome.

Maybe 7-10 years ago there was a snowstorm rolling through when JMU came to town. I remember it being a few inches worth of snow. That was the last JMU I can remember going to.

I have not posted anything for a few years, but I thought I'd comment on the difference in how JMU is viewed today and how it was was viewed ....or rather how they viewed themselves in "my era" (1979-1983). During my day JMU students viewed themselves as the "social and intellectual" superiors to ALL Mason, students, who they viewed as ALL "living in Mommy and Daddy's basement" and keeping their part-time jobs at the Tysons as a cashier at K-mart during their free time. They called Mason GMCC, or George Mason Community College, as it made them feel better about themselves. I'm not sure when this changed, because I see there are many post referring to JMU's Backwoods Country origins. (I always called JMU the U.Va "waiting list" because EVERY JMU seemed to be on it.) It warms my heart to see the student's of the "Normal and Industrial School for Women in Harrisonburg" (JMU's first name, really...including an original coat of arms that featured had a needle and thread and a spinning wheel...seriously) being called-out for their backwoods location. It really warms my heart, it really does. lol
