Tom,
Arent you tired of saying the same sentence after each game?

Haha, that's priceless coming from you. If somebody pulled the string on your back, the only thing you would say is "Hewitt sucks!" or "Fire Hewitt!" over and over again. And just because I say Sherrod and Allen got no support offensively doesn't mean I exonerate the coaches.

Hewitt did a lousy job of finding a way to get our big men involved yesterday. In fact, other than a few buckets by J2, they were obsolete. You could tell Jenkins was getting flustered by their 7-footer, but we made no adjustment to get him more touches in better situations.

A big reason our offense is so inconsistent from game to game is because the players aren't coached properly. How else can you explain Copes going from the best game of his career Wednesday to 0 points, 2 boards and 2 turnovers Saturday?

He is Bernard Clinton. He made the horrific call in the CAA finals that gave the game to vcu. With vcu leading by a point (I think), Maynor drove toward the basket and was fouled with about 30 seconds to go. Clinton called it a flagrant, which essentially ended the game as all Mason could do was foul an 80% foul shooter (Maynor). As you can see, I have totally forgotten that call...

I thought we got rid of the stench of the CAA refs......man I can go down the list of refs from the past few years in the CAA that I despised and were totally incompetent. Clinton being one of them.

To the posters defense, EVERYTHING is a broken record at this point. Its the same story each game with the same post game "Hewitt haters" saying the same thing and the "Hewitt apologists" saying the same thing.

Its a broken record that Hewitt is exactly who we thought he was.....and its a broken record that our board now is a carbon copy of the GT boards during his tenure there.

Its also a broken record in people saying that certain people always say the same thing all the time.

Maybe we should just talk about games that happened in our imagination.....to change it up a bit.

We are pretty unanimous on these boards. The "Hewitt apologists" are simply ascribing blame to the players when their crappy play warrants it...and in a very backhanded way showing some (very small) appreciation for Hewitt's coaching skills.

Although I'd like to see the players held more accountable around here when it's warranted, I'm not sure there is a lot to appreciate about Hewitt's "coaching skills" these days. We were out-coached on both ends of the floor yesterday, and the fans and players deserved better.

It would have been refreshing to hear him hold himself accountable in the press conference for not having the team ready for a homecoming game in front of 8,000-plus fans. This is two years in a row we have had our lunch handed to us in what is supposed to be a celebratory weekend for students and alumni.

Looked more like 6800 to me and I have a pretty good eye for guesstimating attendances. No way was it almost 8K.

I don't know how anyone can estimate attendance at the Patriot Center when there are so many people evidently incapable of remaining in their seats during game action.

Season tickets + partial season tickets (that include the game) + individual game tickets sold + complimentary tickets used.
by definition attendance is defined as "the persons or number of persons present".
Seems ridiculous to use anything other then actual headcount which could be easily obtained from point of entry, appose to point of sale/complimentary tickets.

Although I claim no special expertise in estimating crowds, I'm presuming attendance is based on tickets sold. The weather and team performance present 2 good reasons why some might buy tickets in advance of Homecoming but when Feb. 15 arrives after 2 consecutive days of the campus being shut down and some nearby areas getting snow the morning of the game, those people decide not to show up. Unfortunately the team failed to reward those of us who did make the effort to make the trip.

Hold up. I was being serious. It's crazy that one or two guys never get help. Ie the players can't play as a team. That's all I was saying. As for my string, it's been singing the right tune since Hewitts first day.

Remember when some posters were bashing L for only making the tournament twice and the NIT once in 5 years?

I miss those days.

What exactly did we get with the same investment with Coach L after the Final 4. After failing to even make the postseason the year after, we got back to the NCAAT in 2008 — thanks in large part to W&M upsetting vcu in the CAA semis — and got pounded by Notre Dame. We then got to the NIT a year later and lost to Penn State after horrible coaching blunder.

That was followed up in 2010 with the biggest collapse in our history's program — and NCAA postseason history — after we below a 27-point, second-half lead to powerhouse Fairfield in the illustrious CIT. The win over an overrated Villanova team in 2011 was still impressive after a great regular season, but all the casual sports fan remembers from that Mason team was the 30-point drubbing we took two days later against OSU.

Coach L was a very good coach and great for our program, but I find the revisionist history around here amongst the Hewitt bashers to be pretty funny. I will always be grateful to Coach L for putting us on the map, but he never made us the household name you and a few others around here aspire to be. The reality is we are still what we have always been. A solid mid-major who will get to the NCAAT every few years. I'm sorry things haven't turned out like you expected.

Are you talking about the foul on Monroe in the 2007 CAA Tourney Championship Game? If so, it was the right call. Stop blaming refs for G Mas incompetence.

That's the play...I was at the game. In your opinion it was the right play. From where I sat, which was in the corner where it occurred, it was a close call. It effectively ended the game. Clinton is a horrible ref who should not work Mason games or any other games.

And that 2007 team was hardly incompetent. And I am blaming the ref for not letting the players decide the outcome.

G Mas, please, no crawl has ever shown that abbreviation.

Actually I would say it was over 7000. Most of the wings were full. I have some pics and video to post. It was very crowded.
