That’s how you close out a game! How many times have we folded against them in the final few minutes of a game over the last 20 years? We weren’t intimidated today. The moment wasn’t too big. We took every punch they threw and countered with a bigger blow. So damn refreshing to flip the script.
Yep, I remember one year, about 20 years back when Eric Maynor single handedly won the game for them. We had a (relatively) safe lead with a minute or so left. He stole the ball from our PG like 3 times in a row and converted for them.
A fold and a loss.
BUT NOT TODAY!!

The low turnover number surprised me - that is where vcu used to snake bite us.
Absolutely!

At one point in the closing moments our players marched down the floor side by side. I wish that I had my phone out for a picture. One of those moments!

Great win today!!!! Crowd was great, passion was great, execution was great. The one play that defined our team for me was the Kanga foul. HARD, CLEAN, AGGRESSIVE. That play showed our toughness and that we weren't going to back down and roll over as we have in the past. Not a huge fan of talk because it's cheap but Kory Mincy was not backing down from anyone today and he let them know it. HUGE balls and toughness. What a joy to be part of!!!!!

The best part was going out for a celebration after the game. Driving home on 123 around 3:20 I had the pleasure of passing the vcu bus and gave them a nice one fingered salute. I know I should be better than that but it just seemed to fit the occasion.

Well done Mason, a possible program defining win under Tony Skinn. Nice!

What's the difference between a vcu grad and a pizza?
A pizza can feed a family of four.

How does a dumb blonde get into college?
She applies to vcu.

Agree with Patriot since. 81 we were the aggressor the entire game. No easy baskets. Best performance of the year by the entire team. If u weren't at EBA it was the loudest it has been in a few years. Defense chants almost every possession, standing Os for the team on Timeouts, even the old folks were standing great atmosphere. As far as the team, great scoring balance and ball movement. Special praise goes out to Jahari who had zero points at the 16 min mark of second half and ended up with14 for the game and 6 critical down the stretch. Great game.

That was fun today. Great crowd. Great result. The few times we had to hear the vcu chants the team shut them up quickly. Great to see them come out ready with no slow start today.

Tony talks a lot about the poise of this team. Something very telling to me was the contrast in the teams for the Anthem. Our guys were lined up, not messing around or talking, well before the singer began. It took until he sang the word gleaming for the vcu players to all be lined up. And even then many were just talking to each other. It was a stark contrast in respect, discipline and yes, poise. And it shone through in the game play I thought.
