Game 16: GMU (14-1 / 2-0) at Fordham (9-6 / 0-2) on Wednesday, January 7, at 7:00 PM.

Alright some postgame thoughts (finally got to watch a conference game front to back):
1: The offensive rebounding margin is ah well. Fordham is top 30 in the country at it, they'll get theirs, thought we defended most of their second chance opportunities well.
2: Strong return from Dola. 8 points in 12 minutes and I thought looked the quickest he has all season. Maybe that foot was bothering him for longer than we all thought...
3: Riley is just gonna eat up the vast majority of front courts in this league on the offensive side of the ball. He's gotta be better defensively still imo, but his offensive production usually gets us there.
4: Jahari Long with another quiet 7 assists, love that guy.
5: Kanga caught a pass to make it 48-42 and I thought about Emejuru trying to catch that for a few seconds and made myself laugh. The Freshman has some serious hands.
6: gosh darn is it nice to get out of the Bronx with a win, that is a place that has seen painful basketball translate into a loss far too many times for Mason since joining the A-10.

GIVING DAY 2023
Woooow. That was a very solid win and very ugly at points.

I really thought we were headed for an ugly 8 point loss after the first half. Nothing was falling, we couldn’t get a bounce. Fortunately in the second half we got stops, tightened defensively on screens and got some easier baskets against their zone or in transition. Hat tip to Riley for banging on their bigs in their zone to get layups. Their bigs are stiff and can barely move.

It doesn’t have to be pretty but they won, and they beat the spread and kenpom (heard the staff say something towards the end),from my understanding. Road wins in league play are going to be like tonight. Very happy we got the win and now are 15-1 and 3-0. I will have to see if they outrebounded us because it sure as hell felt like it. Thankfully they missed a lot of layups especially towards the end.

Hat tip to everyone who texted me or saw me - my understanding is some of my frustrated reactions were on tv lol. I’m sure I was only doing what many of you were doing while watching at home.

They did indeed out-rebound us, but like I said, if you looked at their analytics, you would expect them to. That from court is just massive. Schulte is the smallest at 6'9!

I posted before I saw your post, but yes you’re absolutely right. Their bigs are tall but can’t move much.

Big boys won that for us in the second half, great job from all of them across the board. If we don’t figure out how to come out of the gate swinging though we’re going to get rocked by vcu coming straight off their home loss.
Yep. We won't have time to mess around with vcu.
I love the way Tony makes halftime adjustments. So big credit to him. But the way we typically begin the games is also on him. He needs to get better.
